De **Vrije Universiteit Brussel** staat al meer dan 50 jaar voor vrijheid, gelijk(waardig)heid en verbondenheid en dat leeft sterk op onze campussen bij zowel studenten als personeel. Bij de VUB vind je een diverse verzameling aan persoonlijkheden: innovators pur sang, maar vooral **mensen die 100% hun authentieke zelf zijn**. Met zo'n **3500 medewerkers** zijn we de **grootste Vlaamstalige werkgever in Brussel; **een internationale stad waarmee we ons maar al te graag verbinden en waar(rond) onze 4 campussen gelegen zijn.
**2 - Functiebeschrijving**:
Het Scientific Compute & data team biedt centrale diensten voor wetenschappelijk rekenen en data verwerking aan de VUB onderzoek gemeenschap. In de voorbije jaren is er een toegenomen focus op het beheren en publiceren van wetenschappelijk datasets (research data management). Er is een grote nood aan oplossingen om op een eenvoudige manier data te verzamelen, verwerken, annoteren en publiceren. In het geval van gevoelige datasets (bv medische) zijn er strenge eisen op het gebied van beveiliging en dit vereist specifieke oplossingen. We zijn op zoek naar een nieuwe data storage expert om te helpen bij het ontwikkelen en beschikbaar maken van deze oplossingen met als doel om een eenvoudig maar betrouwbare dienst te kunnen aanbieden aan de VUB onderzoek gemeenschap.
Een greep uit je takenpakket:
- Samen met je collega's **beheer je de hardware en software stack van de storage infrastructuur en de diensten** die er gebruik van maken. We streven ernaar een zo hoog mogelijke kwaliteit en beschikbaarheid van onze diensten en systemen aan te bieden.
- Je draagt** proactief bij tot het verder ontwikkelen** van de storage infrastructuur en diensten met de focus op gebruiksvriendelijkheid, automatisering, monitoring, veiligheid en documentatie.
- Je communiceert met onze gebruikers en helpt hen bij het vinden van de optimale oplossing voor hun data en workflow problemen. Hierbij is een klantgerichte aanpak cruciaal.
- Je helpt bij het verbeteren en uitbreiden van de tools en scripts die gemaakt zijn door en voor het team. Version control, testen en documenteren zijn daarbij van het grootste belang.
- Je draagt bij tot de continous integration tools van het team: scripts en pipelines worden opgezet met als doel maximale automatiseren.
- Je volgt mee de monitoring op van onze systemen en grijpt tijdig in bij problemen. Wanneer nodig verbeter je de monitoring om te helpen problemen proactief te detecteren. Indien relevant volg je samen met de leverancier op tot het probleem is opgelost.
- Je maakt gebruik van onze Agile tool **(Azure DevOps)** om je werk te plannen, documenteren en rapporteren.
Voor deze functie zal Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene) je thuisbasis worden met mogelijkheden tot werken van thuis (tot 3 dagen/week).
**3 - Profiel**:
Wat verwachten wij van jou?
- We zoeken iemand met een **masterdiploma**, of voldoende relevante werkervaring. Bij voorkeur in uit de exacte wetenschappen.
- Je hebt ervaring met **Linux systeem beheer**. Het is een pluspunt als je ervaring hebt met een variant van Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- Ervaring met het** **beheer van large-capacity storage systemen is een grote plus.
- Je kunt scripten in **Bash en/of Python**; Je kunt overweg met git als tool voor source code version control.
- Kennis of ervaring met een of meerdere van volgende domeinen is een plus: Object stores (S3), Software defined storage (Ceph, Spectrum Scale,), Storage technology in general (SAN/NAS, iSCSI), Configuration Management tools (ansible, salt,), Agile.
- Je hebt ruime ervaring met problemen oplossen in IT.
- Je kunt je perfect uitdrukking (zowel mondeling als schriftelijk) in het **Engels**. Kennis van het Nederlands is een plus.
- Je kan werken in België (work-permit)
**4 - Aanbod**:
