You will play a crucial role in the CIRCOMP project:
Developing a circular steel-timber composite floor system by creating innovative and demountable shear connections. This project is a collaboration between UGent-Woodlab and the Construction Engineering Research Group (CERG) at UHasselt.
As a researcher at UGent-Woodlab, your focus will center on the hygroscopic behavior of the cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor element and its impact on the reusability of the wood-steel system.
Furthermore, you will engage in collaborative research discussions with the CIRCOMP researcher at UHasselt, who will concentrate on the mechanical performance of the wood-steel connection.
Specifically, your research will entail:- To assess the disassembly and reusability of developed systems after long-term and cyclic loading, including assembly-disassembly-reassembly loops;
- To evaluate the impact of dynamic hygroscopic behavior of wood under continuous moisture fluctuations on the wood-steel system, where dimensional changes are restricted by material connections;
- To examine material durability when exposed to outdoor conditions;
As part of the scientific team, you will also undertake research support tasks within UGent-Woodlab, publish your findings in reputable journals, and present them at conferences.
What We Are SeekingWe are looking for candidates holding a Master's degree (preferably in Bioengineering, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering-Architecture, or Industrial Engineering: Construction or Industrial Design Engineering Technology). Ideally, you possess research experience with wood or other bio-based materials, or research exposure related to moisture behavior in materials. Proficiency in Dutch and English (both oral and written communication) is essential. Additionally, we value independent task planning and execution, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
What We Offer YouWe provide a two-year fixed-term contract commencing at the earliest on 1/08/2024. Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scales WM1 to WM4.
