We zijn op zoek naar een junior medewerker met een bachelordiploma laboratoriumtechnologie, of gelijkwaardig door ervaring, en je hebt de nodige interesse in (bio)technologische appartuur. Ervaring in moleculair biologische technieken en/of histologische analyses zijn een meerwaarde, maar we zorgen sowieso voor de nodige opleidingen.

Je bent in elk geval:

een autonome, maar ook sociale collega met goede interpersoonlijke en communicatievaardigheden; een creatieve probleemoplosser die niet terugdeinst om met complexe toestellen te werken; een precieze en resultaat-georiënteerde werker; punctueel en sterk in organisatie van complexe planningen; vaardig in basis computertaken (tekstverwerking, spreadsheetanalyses etc.); bereid om opgeleid te worden in de verschillende multiplex methoden;nieuwsgierig en bereid steeds bij te leren; iemand met verantwoordelijkheidszin, die snel initiatief neemt om onderzoek(somstandigheden) te verbeteren; vlot in Engels mbt. dagdagelijkse, werkgerelateerde communicatie (we are an international team); bereid je steentje bij te dragen aan de algemene laborganisatie en in staat om blijvende toewijding te geven aan wederkerende taken.

Je wordt ingeschakeld binnen de histologie core facility om de multiplex methode uit te voeren, in goede banen te leiden en verder te optimaliseren. 

Meer specifieke taken zijn:

Gebruik en supervisie van automatische stainingrobots voor het immunohistochemische kleuringen. Gebruik en supervisie van automatische microscopen voor het digitaliseren van weefselcoupes. Stalen klaarmaken voor histologische analyse (oa. aanmaak van tissue microarrays/TMAs, weefelscoupes maken, etc) Uitvoeren van (geautomatiseerde) histologische kleuringen (vnl fluorescentie gebaseerde kleuringen) volgens het MILAN protocol en ondersteuning geven aan de PhD en postdoctorale onderzoekers, maar ook aan externe klanten die gebruik maken van het platform: dit protocol omvat het uitwerken van complexe planningen om uiteenlopende types stalen met verschillende antilichaam cocktails te kleuren, het opstarten en bedienen van de autostainer robot en de automatische microscopen die de stalen verder verwerken, en het voorzien van de nodige ondersteuning van de onderzoekers (oa. door het aanmaken/voorzien van de nodige reagentia, consumables en buffers) Ondersteuning van diverse experimenten in samenwerking met PhD en postdoctorale onderzoekers Ondersteuning van de routine opdrachten van de histology core facility (oa. weefselcoupes maken, standaard immunohistochemische analyses, verwerken van ontvangen weefsels) Onderhoud van collecties: antilichaamcollecties, protocols, aanvullen elektronische labnotebooks en databanken Verantwoordelijk (gedeeld met andere laboranten) voor bestellingen en beheer productenstock, contact met vertegenwoordigers en leveranciers, onderhoud en herstel van toestellen, naleven van huisregels en laboratorium- en bioveiligheid

Je voert experimenten onafhankelijk uit, daarbij geef je blijk van verantwoordelijkheidszin en kritische reflectie over het ontwerp en de uitvoering van experimenten. Je bespreekt je resultaten en/of feedback op regelmatige basis met teamleden.

Ondersteun de toekomst van geavanceerde pathologie: ontketen de kracht van geavanceerde single-cell technologie voor precisiegeneeskunde.Het Leuven Institute for Single-cell OMICS (LISCO) en de afdeling Translationeel Cel- en Weefselonderzoek van de Afdeling Beeldvorming en Pathologie (faculteit Biomedische Wetenschappen, campus Gasthuisberg) bieden geavanceerde pathologische diensten aan aan allerlei onderzoeksgroepen en farmaceutische bedrijven, waarbij histologische analyse een groot deel uitmaakt. We hebben onlangs geavanceerde multiplexanalyses geïmplementeerd waarbij tientallen biomarkers op dezelfde weefselcoupe kunnen worden geanalyseerd. Om deze technologie efficiënt uit te voeren, hebben we een aantal automatische microscopen en robots geïmplementeerd die dit proces aanzienlijk versnellen. We zijn op zoek naar een gemotiveerde (junior) laboratoriumtechnoloog om ons team te versterken en dergelijke geavanceerde analyses uit te voeren, te beheren en kwalitatief hoogstaande gegevens te genereren in het kader van academische en industriële samenwerkingen en servicecontracten.

Wij bieden een voltijdse tewerkstelling aan binnen onze dienst aan KU Leuven. Je werkt in een stimulerende onderzoeksomgeving en draagt bij aan een vlotte groepsdynamiek in samenwerking met verschillende postdoctoraal onderzoekers, doctorandi en ander technisch personeel.

De mogelijkheid tot verlenging van het initieel 1-jarig contract strookt met onze intentie om een langdurige samenwerking op te starten. Hiervoor is een goede evaluatie van het eerste werkjaar vereist. Ben je onmiddellijk inzetbaar in alle opdrachten van deze functie dan start je in graad 5. Beloftevolle kandidaten die nog niet alle opdrachten meteen kunnen opnemen of nog een specifiek opleidingstraject moeten doorlopen starten in graad 4. 

De intentie is om de ‘MILAN’ methode uit te werken tot een kernactiviteit van onze onderzoeksgroep en deze eveneens aan te bieden aan derden. Deze functie biedt de opportuniteit om een belangrijke sleutel te worden in deze ontwikkelingen en hierin mee te groeien.
