Context

As part of strengthening our client's Testing Factory, we are actively looking for a Test Environment Manager.

This role, both operational and strategic, aims to coordinate and ensure the availability, performance, and optimization of non-production mainframe environments.

Main Responsibilities

1. Immediate Actions and Quick Wins

  • Conduct a complete assessment of the current state ("AS IS") of test environments.
  • Establish a centralized environment schedule to organize usage and prevent conflicts.
  • Identify and quickly resolve critical issues (performance slowdowns, unavailability, conflicts).
  • Document environment usage rules and best practices to ensure continuity and efficiency.
  • Implement a clear and accessible reservation system to streamline environment allocation.

2. Governance and Continuous Improvement

  • Define clear governance rules for environment management (data copies, batch execution, prioritization, usage duration, configuration updates).
  • Consolidate a detailed mapping of applications and systems per environment to provide a clear overview of their usage and dependencies.
  • Implement performance tracking and prioritize improvement actions.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress in availability and efficiency.
  • Set up an alert and escalation process to resolve critical environment issues.
  • Suggest and implement additional improvements based on best practices to enhance stability, reliability, availability, and efficiency.

3. Coordination and Communication

  • Maintain and update the centralized environment schedule regularly.
  • Organize regular meetings with environment stakeholders (testing, development, infrastructure, data teams) to align usage and priorities.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure environment management follows best practices.
  • Maintain clear communication with all direct stakeholders (project teams, operations, support) and IT management.

Technical Skills

  • Experience managing multiple environments (DEV, TEST, UAT, PREPROD, PROD).
  • Strong knowledge of Mainframe environments (LPARs architecture, MQs, DB2 management, automation with JCL, REXX, CICS...).
  • Implementation of an environment reservation system (ServiceNow, Jira, or custom solutions).
  • Knowledge of test management processes (ISTQB, TMAP...).
