Tens of thousands of travel and STI consultations take place in our clinic each year, and our internationally recognized reference laboratories examine many hundreds of thousands of samples.

The Department of Clinical Sciences strives for optimal diagnosis, treatment and prevention of tropical and globalized infectious diseases. The department has long-standing well-recognised expertise in working with both in tropical lower-resourced settings and in the conduct of clinical trials of treatments, vaccines, and diagnostics, supported by the ITM Clinical Trials Unit.
The Medical Services of ITM with more than 20.000 travelers a year, is a national reference center for travel-related infectious and tropical tropical diseases. Our ITM team works in close relationship with the Infectious Diseases Unit of the University Hospital of Antwerp.
**Assignment**:
- You conduct clinical research activities at ITM’s outpatient clinic.
- You reinforce and assist the research units, with a focus on Travel and Tropical Medicine, in their research and reference activities (national treatment guidelines in tropical medicine, emerging infectious diseases and outbreak control). If needed, you assist in other clinical research activities of the Medical Services (in collaboration with the Units of HIV care and Sexual Transmitted Infections).
- You keep yourself up to date with evolutions in the field of Travel and Tropical Medicine and Emerging Infectious Diseases.
- You take an active role in the elaboration of specialized needed advices for the National Government (Federal Agency for Medicines) and/or the European authorities (European Medicines Agency) regarding the evaluation of new vaccines and/or drugs (under the supervision of the experts of the respective Units).
- You report to the Head of the Unit of Travel Medicine, Prof. Dr. P. Soentjens.
**Profile**:
- You are a medical doctor with a diploma in tropical medicine.
- You have track record in clinical tropical medicine in resource limited settings.
- You have clinical experience in the response to Emerging Infectious diseases.
- A specialization in infectious diseases, microbiology, epidemiology, public health or holding a PhD are important assets.
- Additional trainings on Good Clinical Practice and statistics are assets.
- You have an excellent active knowledge of English. Knowledge of French and/or Dutch is an added value.
- You are a team player and have good communication skills.
