The **Unit of Virology** has a particular interest in unravelling arthropod-borne virus-host-vector interactions at the molecular level to advance the understanding of virus transmission, immune evasion and fundamental pathobiology of chikungunya and dengue virus. Another major line of research is dedicated to advancing the diagnosis of (re-) emerging viruses through the development of better diagnostic tools that can be applied in poor resource settings and during outbreaks. We develop novel approaches for multiplex molecular diagnostic testing, for more specific serology-based testing and for unbiased metagenomics sequencing. The Unit is running collaborative research and capacity building projects on virus-host interactions and on the evaluation of new diagnostic tests with partners in DR Congo, Peru and Cuba.

The Unit is recruiting a postdoctoral Research Fellow to study the **immunorepertoire during dengue infection using high-throughput B-cell and T-cell receptor sequencing**, as part of a larger project on identifying host biomarkers predictive of severe dengue, in collaboration with partners from Ghent University and Janssen Pharmaceutica, and with a close link to field work in Peru.

**Assignment**:

- You will be responsible for establishing and performing BCR/TCR repertoire sequencing in the unit
- You will be responsible for the project management and communication with the project partners
- You will conduct molecular biology, immunology and cellular biology analysis
- You will write high quality publications for scientific journals
- You will present research results at different levels and for different audiences
- You will contribute to the scientific discussion and help training and supervising Master and PhD students

**Profile**:

- You hold a PhD in Virology, Immunology or a related field
- You have strong expertise in molecular biology and HT sequencing approaches
- You have an interest in vector-borne diseases, immunology and bioinformatics
- You preferably have previous expertise in BCR/TCR immunorepertoire analysis
- You show a high level of enthusiasm and motivation, and you are scientifically curious
- You have excellent scientific writing and oral communication skills in English
- You have excellent organization skills
