**NeuVasQ Biotechnologies**, a spin-off from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), is developing pharmaceuticals to sustain or restore neurovascular function, a novel mechanism to interfere with disease progression for the benefit of millions of patients affected by neurological disorders.

Position
The position is based in the Brussels South Charleroi Biopark, Belgium.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shape and lead discovery research and activities, for a portfolio of drug discovery projects spanning multiple therapeutic product modalities (small molecules, antibodies, proteins, as well as viral or non-viral delivery of DNA or RNA-based systems)
- Build and lead a team of research scientists with broad range of expertise
- Develop robust, detailed plans and budgets for the discovery team
- Establish target product profiles consistent with the company strategy and scientific platform
- Oversee the development and validation of in vitro and cell-based assays, including for high-throughput primary screening and for in-depth product characterization and optimization
- Lead the design and selection of compound libraries and oversee the implementation of screening campaigns
- Build strong working relationships with other research teams, internally and externally, as well as with other functions within the company, to maximize impact of the discovery team
- Establish and oversee collaborations with CROs
- Responsible for developing and documenting research protocols; for data review, analyses, and interpretation; documentation and reporting of research work and outcomes
- Participate in issue-resolution teams, where she/he will be required to contribute to hypotheses generation
Profile
- A PhD degree, plus post-doctoral or similar experience, in Biology, Chemistry, Bioengineering or related disciplines
- At least 5 years of proven industry experience in the discovery of novel therapeutics, preferably for a broad range of therapeutic product modalities (for CNS disorders)
- Proven track record of advancing drug discovery projects from hit generation through lead optimization
- Deep scientific knowledge focused on the fields of neuroscience, with knowledge of critical issues in drug discovery
- Demonstrated record in driving scientific and technical innovations, with strong sense of practical execution and a focus on achieving milestones supporting company growth
- Teamwork and leadership experience, preferably in a biotech start-up environment
- Interpersonal skills which inspire the environment, while being diplomatic and critical
- Highly developed communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing (via publications in scientific journals).
- Ability to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize and clearly convey research objectives
