In het voortdurend veranderende data science landschap en ons groeiende instituut, ontstaan er steeds meer opportuniteiten die vakkundige en proactieve opvolging vereisen. We streven ernaar om onze capaciteit voor valorisatie en business ontwikkeling uit te breiden met een gemotiveerde innovatiemanager/ business developer die in staat is om de volgende verantwoordelijkheden op zich te nemen:

- Je blijft op de hoogte van het actueel wetenschappelijk onderzoek van DSI.
- Je verwerft een goed inzicht in de nieuwe strategische ontwikkelingen in het innovatiebeleid en de industriële sector op vlak van data science, open science, softwareontwikkeling en bescherming van data science gerelateerde intellectuele eigendom (IP).
- Je treedt op als eerste aanspreekpunt voor valorisatie ideeën en initiatieven: je ondersteunt onderzoekers met het bepalen en uitvoeren van de volgende stappen in valorisatie (bv. richting een octrooi, licentie, spin-off creatie of dienstverleningsaanbod). Je houdt daarmee rekening met de onderzoekscontext en het ervaringsniveau van de onderzoeker(s) met betrekking tot valorisatie processen.
- Je staat ook in voor het onderhouden en uitbreiden van het netwerk van samenwerkingspartners van DSI: je identificeert nieuwe stakeholders (industrieel, academisch, klinisch, overheidsinstanties, enz.) die belangrijke partners kunnen zijn voor DSI via verschillende activiteiten zoals proactieve scouting en deelname aan netwerkevenementen, (inter)nationale seminars, vakbeurzen, enzovoort. Je onderhoudt ook een goede samenwerking met bestaande, strategische partners. Belangrijke spelers in dit ecosysteem zijn: het Vlaams Supercomputer Centrum, VITO, Corda campus, Vlaamse speerpuntclusters, innovatieve bedrijfsnetwerken, farmaceutische, IT- en andere bedrijven, Knowledge for Growth, Flanders Health,...
- Je begrijpt de data science nood van externe partners en vertaalt deze naar een mogelijke oplossing die DSI via dienstverlening of andere vorm van samenwerking kan bieden. Je werkt samen met het hoofd van de dienstverleningsunit en de financiële manager om een offerte en contractvoorstel uit te werken.
- Je beheert het IP-portfolio van DSI, inclusief open source licenties voor DSI-software en assisteert DSI-onderzoekers bij het selecteren van passende OSS-licenties.
- Je zal valorisatieprojecten mee schrijven en indienen: FWO-SBO, VLAIO, O&O, EU, Proof of concept financiering,
- Je onderhandelt mee over IP en andere contractuele afspraken in samenwerkingsovereenkomsten met externe partijen.
- Je werkt nauw samen met de huidige innovatiemanager (business developer) binnen DSI, de DSI directeurs, de onderzoeks
- en projectmanagers, de onderzoekers van DSI en met de collega's van de Dienst Tech Transfer en de Dienst Onderzoekscoördinatie van de UHasselt.

**Jouw talenten**:

- Je beschikt ofwel over een doctoraatsdiploma in het domein van wiskunde, data science, ingenieurswetenschappen, informatica, levenswetenschappen ofwel over minstens 5 jaar ervaring in de uitvoering of organisatie van toegepast wetenschappelijk onderzoek of strategisch basisonderzoek in één van deze domeinen of over gelijkwaardige ervaring binnen de industrie.
- Je bent gedreven om onderzoeksresultaten op de markt te brengen en hebt het talent om je enthousiasme over te dragen aan DSI onderzoekers. Zo draag je bij aan een groeiende cultuur van ondernemerschap binnen het instituut.
- Je houdt ervan om je netwerk vaardigheden in te zetten om nieuwe samenwerkingsverbanden op te zetten.
- Je hebt een aantoonbare affiniteit met het bedrijfsleven.
- Als je ervaring hebt met toegepaste data science, AI onderzoek en het schrijven van valorisatiegerichte aanvragen is dat een pluspunt.
- Ervaring met IP-exploitatie aan de hand van licenties, spin-offs en start-ups is een pluspunt, maar ook een sterke interesse in deze thema’s wordt gewaardeerd.
- Je hanteert een proactieve voortgangscontrole van de aan jou toegewezen opdrachten en verantwoordelijkheden. Door je planmatige en organisatorische vaardigheden, weet je de nodige structuur en een duidelijk overzicht te creëren.
- Je kijkt er naar uit om bij te leren en/of op de hoogte te blijven van trends in IP-bescherming en exploitatie in het algemeen en met betrekking tot software in het bijzonder.
- Je bent een teamplayer en neemt initiatief om collega’s met een verschillende achtergrond en ervaring (vb juridisch, financieel, GDPR, data management, data science,) te betrekken in nieuwe initiatieven.
- Je communiceert helder en vlot in het Engels en dit zowel mondeling als schriftelijk. Communicatie in het Nederlands kan nodig zijn om een samenwerking met lokale partners op te zetten. Indien je nog niet vlot communiceert in het Nederlands, maar je dit wel wil leren, ben je zeker welkom.
