**Postdoctoral **Researcher**
To join the ERC-funded Starting Grant project “InfoCitizen” (101076030) from **March 2024 **for a period of three years. InfoCitizen will conduct innovative research on the citizenship practices and technologies coalescing around model initiatives to produce and circulate data in the Global South. It aims to creatively develop a global ethnography that engages interdisciplinarity, applied networks, and multi-methods (archival, digital, audiovisual, and quanti-qualitative) to unveil the _politics_ and _poetics_ of informational citizenship across _top-down_ and _bottom-up_ data ecosystems in Brazil, Portugal, Germany, Kenya, and Tanzania.
**Position**
- Have experience—or eagerness to experiment—with creative comparative approaches, including an ability to dialogue with different empirical scales (global, national, regional, local) and methodologies (audiovisual, documental, quantitative, and qualitative) in a highly dynamic and interdisciplinary team of researchers.
- Prepare a competitive research project to be submitted for external funding (FWO and/or MSCA postdoctoral initiatives) by the end of the first year of the fellowship.
- Manage and guide one research assistant throughout fieldwork.
- Take on teaching duties in line with the vacancy domain and limited to 10%.
- Be co-supervised by Prof. Moises Kopper (Institute of Development Policy, University of Antwerp) and Prof. Daniel Hirata (Fluminense Federal University, Brazil).
- Contribute to the internationalization and multiperspectivity of IOB, strengthening partnerships with development actors, particularly in the Global South.
- Be a team player and have an eye for high-impact research and service at the level of the IOB, the University, and society at large.
**Profile**
You have:
- Experience working closely with NGOs and/or grassroots research networks active within Rio de Janeiro’s favelas. Being a favela-based engaged academic or having lived in the favelas for an extended period are pluses.
- A Ph.D. in Geography or a closely related area.
- Solid knowledge of digital humanities tools. Experience with stylizing spatial data and using geographic and quantitative software (such as ArcGIS, QGIS, Stata, SPSS, or R) are pluses.
- A promising track record, demonstrable in academic research output (high-quality publications), leadership skills, and research outreach with tangible societal impact.
- An excellent command of Portuguese (for fieldwork) and English (for academic communication).
- Not resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Belgium for more than 12 months in the 36 months prior to the start date of the postdoctoral fellowship.
- Obtained your Ph.D. after September 30, 2018.
- Research qualities that are in line with the IOB and university research policies.
- Teaching values that are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision. Having teaching experience in the domain of the vacancy is a plus.
- Attention to quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation.
**What we offer**
- A postdoctoral fellowship from March 2024 to February 2027.
- Your monthly fellowship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for postdoctoral fellowship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: _Bijzonder Academisch Personeel_, BAP).
- You will do some of your work at the UAntwerp City Campus in a dynamic and stimulating working environment. Teleworking is possible in the beginning. Be prepared to spend a significant time of your fellowship at the field site.
