Our researchers conduct more than 100 scientific projects in the fields of tropical medicine and international health. Tens of thousands of travel and STI consultations take place in our clinic each year, and our internationally recognized reference laboratories examine many hundreds of thousands of samples.

The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) strives to advance science and health for all, through innovative research, advanced education, capacity-building, and capacity-sharing with partner institutions in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The ITM is an open and international campus where staff, students and researchers work on the new international health challenges. The Department of Clinical Sciences strives for optimal diagnostics and treatment of tropical and globalised infectious diseases focusing on the health of the individual patient. Over the past decade, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a topic of increasing scientific interest in the department.
The Unit of Tropical Bacteriology implements clinical bacteriology in reference laboratories and referral hospitals in low resource settings. The unit organizes the short course “_Hospital interventions to contain antimicrobial resistance in hospitals in low resource settings_” (further referred to as AIM short course) at ITM and extends it to partner countries in low
- and middle-income countries. For the coordination and diffusion of the AIM short course, we are recruiting a qualified nurse/scientific assistant for a full-time 6-month position, covering the maternity leave of the current coordinator.
**Your role**:
- You contribute to the transfer the AIM short course as part of an educational project in French-speaking West Africa. You thereby initiate and develop field-adapted tools for infection prevention & control in hospital settings, focused on real-life patient care in low resource contexts. You develop online modules, video-clips, and hands-on skillslab activities. You actively participate in the train-the-trainer session of the AIM short course in Benin.
- You report to the head of the Unit of Tropical Bacteriology, prof. Jan Jacobs.
**Your profile**:
- You have a bachelor’s degree with experience in patient care.
- You have been working in low resource settings or are interested to do so.
- You are receptive to human and sociocultural aspects of healthcare in low resource settings.
- Competence in on-line education, video and other interactive tools are assets.
- You are proficient in English and French, mastering other relevant languages is an asset.
- You are an inspiring team player, a strong communicator, able to build strong networks.
- You are pro-active and service minded, and you are not afraid of the new.
- You are available in the (very) near future.
**Offer**:
