**YOUR TASKS**

Within the project BOF.BAF.2024.0729.01 ‘Lingala in Diversity - The sociolinguistic and linguistic study of variation in Lingala in Central Africa and the diaspora in Europe’ (supervisor Prof. dr. Meeuwis, department LW21), you will actively participate in the research subsection ‘Bangala: Lingala's closest linguistic sibling’. In particular, under the supervision and final responsibility of Prof. Meeuwis and in cooperation with Prof. Nassenstein of Mainz University, you will be responsible for the linguistic systematisation and study of Bangala data from existing historical sources and from already collected audio files of Bangala speech, for their transcriptions, for the preparation and systematisation of the academic reporting of a phonology and grammar of Bangala, and for the editorial finalisation of the book manuscript, of which you will of course be co-author.

**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- You hold a degree of Master of African Linguistics or Master of Linguistics with major in African Linguistics. Your master’s thesis involved a linguistic-descriptive study of (a specific aspect of) an African language.
- You have an excellent command of English, including academic writing and editing skills in this language. You also have a very good knowledge of French. You have a good knowledge and grammatical understanding of Bangala and you have notions of and grammatical understanding of Lingala. Finally, you also have a passive knowledge of German (to consult historical sources in this language).
- You have the necessary computer skills to work in Word and to edit and analyse sound files.

**WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU**
- We offer you a contract of definite duration (also known as “fixed-term contract”) for a period of 6 months at 50%.
- Your contract will start on 1/03/2025 at the earliest.
- Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
