Your Profile:

- You are fluent in English (business language)
- You are Master student of Engineering in the field of Systems and Control, Automotive engineering, or equivalent.
- You have a strong interest in vehicle dynamics and control.
- You can demonstrate proficiency in testing, simulation and optimization methodologies.
- You have already demonstrated programming skills in past projects in MATLAB/Simulink. Python will be considered an asset.
- You have (or you are willing to develop) a good understanding of vehicle simulation packages (Carmaker/Simpack).

Your team and your responsibilities:
The UX-DS team has the mission to enable early, agile & accurate human-centric dynamic performance targets for better mobility solutions. Our scope encompasses simulation and Driving Simulator technologies for dynamic user experience and vehicle performance development across R&D.

**Your project**

Steer-by-Wire (SbW) steering systems will be essential for future self-driving vehicles and new generation ADAS safety systems. In a SbW system, the steering wheel is not mechanically coupled to the steering rack. Therefore, this input-output relationship is purely defined by software.

In SbW systems, the torque feedback that the driver receives can thus be designed independently of the actual driving condition. For a SbW system in combination with a ADAS system like Toyota Guardian, the recreation of a natural and informative steering feedback is essential to communicate the system intent/logic/behaviour in a user accepted manner.

The project goal is to exploit the capabilities of SbW systems by developing new concepts of control logic solutions and test them in a Driving Simulator environment aiming a more human-centric, optimal torque feedback design. Main project milestones include:

- Review of the state-of-the-art of SbW technologies.
- Review of the state-of-the-art of Haptic Shared Control approaches.
- Design and calibration of new shared control concepts.

**We can only accept students with an EEA or Swiss citizenship (not requiring a work permit or visa to be eligible to perform an internship in Belgium)
