Our European Bank, head quartered in Brussels, opened in 1995 and covers 10 European judications providing financial services, primarily comprising asset servicing products focused on global custody and collateral management, to international securities market participants. The Bank of New York Mellon SA/NV is the official European bank entity of BNYM in Europe. This is a compelling time for the bank as it continues to grow its footprint and expand its business lines.
SYNOPSIS OF ROLE
This is a critical and exciting role, and as Chief Risk Officer of the European Bank, you have specific responsibility for the risk management (including credit, operational, market, liquidity and technology risk), and compliance function including regulatory relationships. The role operates within BNYM’s 3 lines of defence model with direct accountability of line 2 functions as well as a key contributor to the Executive Committee of the European Bank.
This covers the head office in Brussels, as well as the bank’s branches and subsidiary. The CRO is member of Executive Committee and Executive Director of the Board of the European Bank.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
European Bank has Risk & Compliance (R&C) officers within the legal entity and is also supported by R&C specialists in BNYM under service level agreements between BNYM and the European Bank.
Leadership of direct R&C staff in the European Bank and oversight of the service level agreements with the Group R&C functions who provide support to the European Bank.
Partner with International Chief Risk & Compliance Officer and global / regional functional risk & compliance heads to provide robust risk & compliance oversight for the European Bank and ensure the entity operates within the Board approved risk appetite framework
Maintain a strong level and high quality of communication between functional R&C specialists in the European Bank and counterparts within the broader regional and global company, including regular dialogue with regional / global leaders at senior leadership meetings.
Primary point of contact for all day-to-day risk and compliance related issues with various local regulators and management. Full engagement in delivering and executing all risk Regulatory responsibilities
Ensure delivery of local Risk governance requirements.
Comply with all BNYM corporate policies and procedures, including HR policies and procedures, applicable to the European Bank.
Alert management including the Global Chief Risk Officer and / or the International Chief Risk & Compliance Officer immediately of any significant changes to business risks and internal control effectiveness.
Notify management and / or the Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer and International Chief Risk & Compliance Officer immediately on discovery of any material regulatory breach.
Comply with all Security and Health & Safety policies and procedures operating within the business.
GENERAL FRAMEWORK ON ACCOUNTABILITY
Banking entity and other legal entity executives are accountable to the relevant entity Board for its safety and soundness, executing its strategy based on the Group’s strategy, as it pertains to the entity including in respect of business results, appropriate client coverage and service delivery together with management and control of the entity’s resources, balance sheet and risk profile (including oversight and / or delivery of outsourcing service arrangements intragroup).
EMEA / International Line of Business CEOs are accountable to their BNYM Executive Committee (EC) representative (either directly or indirectly) for delivering the line of business strategy in the region, to translate and support legal entity business needs into product delivery and will work with the executives of the relevant legal entities in the region to ensure alignment on the business strategy within the legal entities taking into account its risk and control environment.
Contribute to the effective governance of the European Bank, contribute to alignment within the EMEA / International region and the group.
Play an active role in any group or regional or international councils / forum / committees (as appropriate) the job holder is a member of, offering constructive challenge and helping to support
