Your team and your responsibilities:
Chassis Design Division responsibilities are:

- Development of chassis parts (brake, steering, suspension, tire, shift, pedals, etc.) to achieve the highest driving performance and quality at a competitive price.
- Local development of chassis parts for vehicles built in Toyota’s European assembly plants. This activity is done in close cooperation with local suppliers and Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan.
- Investigation of new European technologies

**Your project**

**Background**

Nowadays, vehicles are equipped with sensors for a multitude of purposes, such as to ensure an optimal vehicle stability or anti-lock braking system (ABS).

Besides, by analyzing collected data, new opportunities can be generated. For instance, these data could be used to indirectly measure road conditions and then, advice drivers on the best driving strategy.

**Tasks**

The study focuses on the analysis of vehicle data in order to measure road conditions and more precisely, some punctual obstacles (speed bump, potholes, etc.).

In this goal, the following tasks are foreseen:

- Literature review - Check (de)merit for known approaches
- Propose and implement improvements (improve algorithms, necessity of extra sensors, higher frequency with edge computing, etc.)
- Study the feasibility to not only detect, but to also classify or even quantify the obstacle severity
- Investigate the versatility of the proposed approach for other type of obstacles (e.g., speed bump -> pothole)
