**YOUR TASKS**

The Laboratory of Applied Biotechnology (L.A.B.) at Ghent University, Department of Biotechnology, headed by professor Yves Briers, has a 100% position available for a postdoc in the field of bacteriophage research.

The L.A.B. is partner of a consortium sponsored by the European Defense Fund and focused on the development of phage therapy to treat antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. The postdoctoral researcher will particularly work on the expansion of the phage host spectrum through phage engineering.

100% of your assignment will be spent on academic research.

Your practical research tasks will include conducting scientific research within the scope of the above-mentioned project, which involves:

- Designing, planning and executing phage (engineering) experiments;
- Recombinant protein production and purification;
- Molecular, microbiological and biochemical assays;
- Closely working together with international consortium partners and doctoral students within the group;
- Writing research results for publication in high-quality scientific journals;
- Presenting your research at consortium meetings and (inter)national conferences.

**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- You hold a thesis-based doctorate (obtained max. 6 years ago. This term of 6 years is determined by the date written on the above-mentioned required diploma) relevant to the topic;
- You have demonstrated to be proficient in bacteriophage research through relevant publications in academic journals and participation at (inter)national conferences;
- You have excellent skills for wet lab work;
- You are able to work effectively in an (international) team, as well as independently plan and execute tasks;
- You have a good knowledge of phage biology;
- You have relevant expertise in molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology (including protein production and purification) and microbiology;
- You are fluent in scientific English, both orally and in writing.

**WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU**
- We offer you a contract of indefinite duration with a maximum term of 2 years and 8 months.
- Your contract will start on 1/03/2025 at the earliest.
