T&E is looking for someone who can build coalitions and advocacy campaigns to clean up trucks, buses and vans in Europe. While making up only 2% of the fleet, trucks and buses account for 28% of the EU’s road transport emissions. Over the next few years, T&E wants to carve a clear path to get rid of diesel trucks and air pollution and set the sector on course for 100% clean trucks (mostly electric with a bit of hydrogen). The role of the clean trucks policy officer would be to build powerful industry alliances, advocate for new policy measures and support the team in activities that raise public interest to tackle truck pollution.
This role will involve:
- Coordinating and growing T&E’s alliances with big consumer brands like Ikea and Unilever, as well as logistics companies, and engaging them on key pieces of legislation.
- Engaging in advocacy work with the European Parliament and decision makers in the 27 member states, focussing on key regulations such as the one obliging truck and bus manufacturers to sell an increasing number of electric or hydrogen vehicles (HDV CO2 standards), the one ensuring electric trucks can carry the same amount of cargo weight as a diesel truck (Weights & Dimensions), etc.
- Identifying, commissioning and delivering impactful research tailored to the needs of the team’s EU policy campaigns, in collaboration with either our in-house data analyst or external consultancies.
- Contributing to T&E’s strategy for zero-emission road freight and the identification of new policy streams we (including you) could work on.
- Working independently within the road freight team, but in close coordination with team members and colleagues from other T&E teams.
- Building and maintaining good contacts with policymakers, researchers and our network working in this field.
- Depending on the needs of the team, policy opportunities and the interest of the applicant, lead and grow alliances with other stakeholders, such as cities, health organisations, unions, etc.
- Experience with managing multi-stakeholder coalitions and spotting opportunities for collaboration. Industry coalition experience would be an asset.
- The ability and motivation to learn technical, economic and legal information, to independently develop new political, economic or legal arguments and evidence and use them to convince key stakeholders.
- Good writing, communication and presentation skills.
- The confidence to think and act with initiative, to engage and influence policy-makers of different stripes, industry representatives and other stakeholders at the highest level.
- Project management skills including strong interpersonal and team-working skills, organisational and coordination skills.
- A willingness to develop a network in the logistics sector.
- Ability to deliver to tight deadlines; eager to learn, with a positive and optimistic attitude when faced with challenges.
