Head of Actuarial Function

The Actuarial Function supervises and manages a team of ± 4 FTE.
As independent control function, this department guarantees that the requirements as defined in the Solvency II texts and Circular CBFA-2009-33 are fulfilled, i.e.
- To give an opinion on the quality of the methods, assumptions and data used in the calculation of technical provisions on the basis of the Solvency II regime and in Belgian standards;
- At the time of launch of new products or changes in existing products that could influence the company’s returns, to give an opinion on the pricing, formation of reserves and reinsurance;
- To analyse the annual profitability of the different products in a context of a consistent market and as part of the annual accounts;
- To analyse the existing underwriting limits;
- To make recommendations and provide advice on risk acceptance;
- To issue an opinion on the adequacy of the reinsurance arrangements;
- To issue an opinion on the policy of profit sharing and rebates as well as on compliance with the relevant regulations.
By essence, the Actuarial function holder interacts with every actuarial departments of AXA Belgium and the Group Actuarial function, covers a wide variety of topics for both life, health and P&C activities (pricing, reserving, value management, risk management, reinsurance ) and is in close interaction with the auditors and the regulators.
The Actuarial Function holder at AXA Belgium is also in charge of the local Model **Validation Coordination** (MVRC), which is an independent role that supports the CRO.
The Actuarial Function holder has a functional reporting line to the Chief Risk Officer (as head of Actuarial Function) as well as to the group Chief Actuary.
The Actuarial Function holder is a permanent invitee to the Executive Risk Committee and Board Risk Committee and contributes to the animation of the local actuarial community.
The Actuarial Function holder as key control function has a direct escalation line to the Management Committee and a second escalation step to the Audit Committee in case the Management Committee decides not to address the issue identified by the Actuarial Function.
**Your Profile**
- Master's degree in Actuarial Science or equivalent
- Strong experience and knowledge in life and/or non-life insurance
- Good understanding of Solvency II, key financial/actuarial performance indicators for life and non-life insurance products
- Good understanding of the business environment and associated constraints
- Developed analytical skills
- Managerial and leadership abilities, to successfully lead a team of 4 people
- Critical thinking and integrity
- Excellent strategic vision
- Ability to explain, persuade, hold a position, and negotiate
- Open-mindedness to new approaches and ability to challenge usual practices
- Perfect knowledge of French and/or Dutch and English and excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
