TME R&D centre is responsible for planning, development and production support of vehicles aimed at - and locally produced for - the European market.
The “NV & Driveability” team is part of the Vehicle Performance Engineering division (VPE) division and is responsible for the vehicle NVH (Noise, Vibration and harshness) according to EU customer expectations. We aim at the development of attractive and “fun to drive“ cars matching European market requirements and customer expectations. Using state-of-the art experimental and numerical methods, we develop strategies to achieve the targets, and validate them on virtual and physical prototypes.
**Your project**
**Title: “Acoustic Package of the Future investigation”**
With the increased share of hybrid and electric vehicles, customer expectations towards interior quietness are further increasing. To fulfil these expectations, several acoustic package components (absorption materials, damping layers, etc.) are being added in many areas of the vehicle body. To minimise the impact on vehicle driving range, the mass of these package items needs to be minimised. Furthermore, to contribute to our environmental goals, we aim to replace current NV package materials to more sustainable (recyclable and recycled) types.
In this internship you will investigate recent technologies and methodologies related to acoustic materials to contribute to the development of a more sustainable and (mass-)efficient package for our vehicles. More specifically:
- You will study recent technologies in close collaboration with our partners, with a focus on acoustic performance, mass and sustainability,
- You will contribute to the development of virtual prediction models (among others “SEA”= statistical Energy Analysis) to simulate the impact of the proposed technologies on the vehicle acoustic performance, and you will perform sensitivity and optimisation studies using these models,
- You will perform acoustic testing in our anechoic room and on our test track to measure the NV performance (especially wind noise and rolling noise) of proposed technologies using prototype samples,
- You will contribute to develop future acoustic package strategies of Toyota BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) with strong consideration of mass and sustainability impact.

Your Profile:
- You are pursuing your master’s in mechanical or acoustical engineering, with a strong interest in cars and sound/acoustics.
- You have a background in structural dynamics and acoustics; knowledge of Noise & vibration testing and simulation is an important plus.
- You have some affinity with mathematical and physical modelling, and scientific scripting in Python.
- You have a good English capability and you are eager to work in a multi-cultural environment.
