50Hertz is one of four power transmission system operators (TSO) in Germany and forms together with the Belgian TSO Elia Transmission the Elia Group. Both TSOs operate at the heart of the European electricity system as they provide vital links between the various electricity producers and their 30 million end users. The Group’s high voltage network, with its intricately meshed 18,600 km grid, transports the electricity generated by the producers to the distribution system operators and major industrial consumers. In addition, interconnectors with several neighboring countries allow electricity trade in wider European energy markets. As a Group we developed an ambitious innovation program lead by the Elia Group Function Innovation & Digital. Now this team is looking for an Innovation Technologist (M/F/d).

The enormous infrastructure pipeline, the complexity of volatile renewables integration and the rising availability of end-user electric devices are just examples of the challenges we will face in the next years. Therefore, it is urgent to accelerate development of new solution to enable flexibility, efficiency and scalability across all our value chain: from infrastructure development to maintenance, and from system operations to consumer interaction.

**In parallel, digitalization breaks down boundaries**: The TSO of the future will be a fully digital ecosystem where borders will fade away, both between different business units and between different steps in the energy value chain.

First, you will work in a crazy motivated international team between Berlin and Brussels. You hate monotony and have a passion for IT. The team is constantly challenging the status-quo and the way of working, but also supporting each other in creating concrete impact for the group.

As a technical Swiss-army knife, you will continuously scout and experiment with newest technologies according to identified business challenges in our core domains like Asset Management, System Operation or Markets. You will then co-engage with business stakeholders and help translate their needs into actionable opportunities.

In parallel, you will provide advanced analysis of emerging technologies and bring disruptive ideas to build proof of concepts with impact by implementing iteratively the necessary components in a sandboxed environment to serve a fast exploration of technical capabilities and limitations.

Finally, you will support the Innovation Team evolution by expanding the project portfolio, by diffusing innovation across the group and by vulgarizing complex concepts on technologies such as:
Spacial imaging program (drone/lidar/ )

3D printing

Robotics

IoT

Software development and server development

Stimulating the sense of innovation within the Elia Group company by taking various awareness initiatives and independently managing your own portfolio

Setting and leading your own pilots in order to test innovative concept and technologies according to the identified needs. Efficient coordination with various departments in Elia and 50Hertz, external partners and technology providers.

Connecting and building a digital ecosystem linked to the development innovation initiatives (e.g. innovative offshore, mixed reality for the infrastructure analysis );
Identifying the needs for innovation, and launching the projects and structures to realize them;
Actively contributing to the content of innovation projects in order to ‘innovate’ Elia Group’s various departments;
Your Profile

Degree and/or post-graduate degree in IT, engineering or any related field to the role or equivalent work experience.

Minimum 5 years’ experience in innovation, prototyping, technology or any similar role.

Very rich IT culture and capable of understanding quickly new technologies

Experience in the field of full stack development and/or prototyping is preferred;
Capacity to work autonomously in an international environment;
Team player, able to work in a very dynamic and ambiguous environment;
Willing to spend a few days per month abroad to work out projects in collaboration with international partners and companies of the Elia Group;
Fluency in English (written and spoken).
