Europe is one of our three global priority geographies to advance renewable energy transition in a nature
- positive way. The Nature Conservancy’s Europe Program is recruiting a Renewable Energy Scientist to work with an interdisciplinary team to study how to accelerate the transition to clean energy and a low
- carbon economy, transforming how energy is generated, transmitted, and used - with a low-impact siting perspective.

Europe Renewable Energy Scientist will provide technical and scientific support to the Europe Renewable Energy team. This position will be part of The Nature Conservancy's project that seeks to develop tools that identify areas where renewable energy and transmission systems present the fewest conflicts with wildlife, natural habitats and local communities to achieve ambitious climate and biodiversity goals.

Europe Renewable Energy Scientist will be the technical lead for a set of multistakeholder projects aimed at advancing TNC’s renewable energy siting strategy across Europe. They will collect, process and manage data for the development of renewable energy siting assessments, model optimal locations for renewable energy deployment in Europe to accelerate the energy transition, and train our technical staff and partners in Europe. Europe Renewable Energy Scientist will conduct scientific surveys, data analysis, provide models and maps, write reports, develop proposals and present our methodology and findings. They will act as the key focal point between our global scientific expertise and local partners and engage them creatively to resolve data availability and other technical assignments while developing local, national or regional renewable energy siting assessments.

Main responsibilities:

- Coordinate technical and scientific aspects of the renewable energy siting strategy in Europe.
- Collect and manage data for renewable energy siting in Europe.
- Deliver tools and analysis (data, models, maps) that identify strategies for and areas where renewable energy and transmission systems present the fewest conflicts with wildlife, natural habitats and local communities.
- Conduct training for staff and partners.
- Write reports and prepare presentations to explain complex models and maps (renewable energy siting, species sensitivity mapping) to different audience including practitioners and policy makers.
- Support project development and monitoring; they may develop and manage grants, contracts orrequests for proposal.
- Travels occasionally across Europe and internationally

- Master's Degree in energy, environment or similar science-related field and 4 years ofexperience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems software and Remote Sensing (e.g., ENVI,ERDAS, ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine).
- Record of peer reviewed publications in scientific journals.
- Experience in fundraising and/or writing grants and research proposals.
- Experience in leading or participating on cross functional teams.
- Experience in managing complex projects including the financial aspect and coordinating the work of peers and partners.
- Experience in engagement with stakeholders / governmental and non-governmental institutions, experts and academia.
- Experience in inter-sectoral dialogues, and working with interdisciplinary, cross-functional teams.
- Experience with communication via written, spoken, and graphical means in English

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- A PhD in technical or natural sciences and 1-3 years of experience considered.
- Experience in environmental and/or social impacts of wind and solar technologies and their respective mitigation measures.
- Knowledge of European energy dynamics
- Background in statistical analysis software (R, Matlab, SAS); experience in programming languages for spatial data analysis is a strong asset (Python, IDL, EML).
