We are looking for a **Scientist** **(Biologics Process Sciences)** who is a team player to join us in our **Biologics DS Process Sciences **team, based in **Braine-l’Alleud**, **Belgium**

**About the role**

The Scientist within the **Biologics DS Process Sciences** group will be involved in activities relating to the early-stage process development and late-stage process optimization, transfer and clinical/commercial manufacturing support for upstream and downstream processes to produce **protein therapeutics**.

This position involves close collaboration with research, clinical and commercial manufacturing groups across the globe. He/she will represent the Biologics DS Process Sciences group as appropriate in cross-functional project teams such as technical satellite teams responsible for the Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls of specific **recombinant proteins**.

The Scientist will spend up to 70% of their time in the laboratory performing cell culture and/or analytical experiments. The Scientist may occasionally perform laboratory work during the weekend if required.

The Scientist may occasionally travel to other locations worldwide as part of their activities for UCB.

**Who you’ll work with**:
The Scientist will work as part of virtual and matrix project teams across geographies and time zones.

**What you’ll do**:

- Aid in process development and optimization, process troubleshooting, investigations, characterization. He/she will coordinate and/or perform various analytical assays to determine the impact of process operations on product quality and provide feedback to improve the mammalian platform.
- Develop internal mass spectrometry capabilities for metabolomic, proteomic and multiple attribute monitoring workflows
- Manage their own projects, diligently participate in the evaluation of products or technologies. He/she may be entrusted with management of a small team.
- Execute the strategic directions of the Biologics DS Process Sciences group. He/she will be involved in various technology development projects requiring innovative research in the area of Cell Culture and Analytics for biological therapeutics.
- Perform their experiments and manage their schedule with minimum supervision. He/she will be responsible for advancing their projects, coordinating experiments, pro-actively collecting feedback from team members and management, and managing their team when applicable.
- Generate documentation for experimental reports to support technology transfer and regulatory filings (Development and Technical Reports in English).
- Comply with UCB’s Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policies and standards, and actively participate in their enforcement and improvement to ensure the safety of themselves, others and of UCB’s assets at all times.

**Key activities** will include: multi-attribute methods and other mass spectrometry based methods applied to small molecules or proteins, analytical method development, in-process cell culture samples purification and analysis, process troubleshooting, data analysis/modeling and equipment characterization. He/she will use automation and high throughput technologies for sample preparation and/or analysis.

**I**nterested? For this role we’re looking for the following** **education, experience** **and **skills**
- Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, or bioengineering.
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in (Bio)Pharma Industry.
- Hands-on experience mass spectrometry and HPLC/UPLC systems is required.
- Experience with high-resolution mass spectrometry applied to metabolomics and/or proteomics is preferred.
- This position requires technical expertise in analytical sciences. The Scientist will utilize knowledge in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, statistics, analytical methods and cellular metabolism.
- Good command of spoken and written scientific English is mandatory. Good command of French is advisable.
