**About the role**

The Gene Therapy (GT) Upstream Process Associate Scientist will be responsible for **supporting Upstream Process Development activities for UCB’s recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) gene therapy products**. The Associate Scientist will contribute to the design, execution, and analysis of experiments. He/she will primarily contribute to the development of UCB products by running experiments in the laboratories under the guidance of Senior Scientists and the Leadership Team.

The Associate Scientist will collaborate with internal and contract laboratories to support development of upstream processes and definition of an AAV production platform for UCB’s gene therapy offerings.

This role will be located at UCB’s Braine-l’Alleud and Leuven sites in Belgium.

**Who you’ll work with**:
**What you’ll do**:

- Design and execution of process development, characterization, and technology transfer of rAAV upstream manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional laboratories and external CDMOs.
- Draft and execute bioreactor and shake flask cell culture studies for development of processes supporting First in Human (FIH) studies through commercialization for rAAV gene therapy products.
- Author & review technical documents including process descriptions, study designs, SOPs, technical position papers, & technical reports.
- Identify & evaluate new technologies to improve and refine rAAV production platforms.

**I**nterested? For this role we’re looking for the following** **education, experience** **and **skills***
- Academical background in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Virology or related fields with **experience in Process Development** of large molecule or cellular therapies:

- 0 to 2 years of experience (PhD)
- 2 years of experience (Master)
- 4 years of experience (Bachelor)
- Technical knowledge and experience with stirred tank bioreactor operation and process development including scale-up/scale-down principles.
- Knowledge of **cGMP manufacturing guidance** and experience with technical investigations and root cause analysis.
- Experience with cell culture with primary cells and/or cell line, including BSL2 principles and aseptic manipulation.
- Experience with data and statistical analysis.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate and maintain good working relationship with internal and external customers.
- Very good command in English, both spoken and written. French is a plus.
