We are seeking a Compliance Expert for Social & Governance matters to join our Service, Quality and Environment function. You will take the lead with legal tracking, interpretation and concluding on vital actions with regards to the new and updated legislation affecting Sony operations and products. As a representative of Sony at trade associations, you’ll strive to provide professional support to internal partners and allow rapid reaction to customer requests or arising obstacles including market surveillance activities.
Your key task will be to ensure that our operations and products align with requirements of Social & Governance laws in the European Region. The region covers Europe, Russia, former Soviet Union countries, Turkey and Israel. You should be someone who has outstanding communication skills, as you will maintain communication throughout internal / external partners across these regions, but also to our Tokyo HQ - maintaining Tokyo’s alignment with any EU Legislation changes.
You will:
Legal Tracking:
- Identify and contract appropriate tracking tools to support legal tracking- Identify and follow-up on upcoming and updated European legislation in the field of Social & Governance and market needs affecting Sony’s products and operations by using tracking tools and established network- Analyse regulatory requirements legally & technically- Coordinate, review and consolidate the analysis of local regulatory requirements done by in-country support- Advise HQ timely on needs to adapt product design and Sony’s operations in time to follow legislation- Draft & define, in agreement with HQ, guidelines and instructions with appropriate conformity actions for Business Groups and Sony companies to ensure products and operations align with the relevant obligations
Lobbying & Standardization:
- Represent Sony in trade associations (e.g. Digital Europe) and steer trade association output to reflect company’s interests- Coordinate lobbying activities in other countries of the region when required
Internal Consultancy:
- Advise Business Groups, HQ, in-country contacts, local sales/marketing and other SQE support functions in compliance related matters (e.g. interpretation of regulations/standards, requirements for new products and Sony’s operations, etc.)- Assist in-country contacts for local lobbying activities with governmental bodies, industry associations and standardization bodies- Provide Sony expertise towards Market Surveillance in case of non-compliance or any enquiry in consultation with HQ, Business Groups and Legal Affairs
Other:
- Maintain close working relationship with Business Groups, Quality & Environment Department, Legal Affairs Europe and European Sales Network- Monitor competitors activities and practices to understand the market and to assess the risk (if Sony applies a deviating approach)- Ensure expert field related matters on the group internal website (including training materials) are maintained up-to-date- Participate in/ lead internal compliance related projects
You will bring:
- Educational: a degree preferably in law or science (or other relevant degree or experience)- Excellent communication and networking skills- Ability to represent the company and drive discussions in related fields with external partners such as trade associations, authorities, NGOs and customers- Interest and ideally experience in regulatory compliance and ESG matters- Knowledge of or particular interest for the following legislations:
- Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)
- Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D)
- UK regulations on CSR
- Data Act- Ability to analyze, interpret regulatory requirements and conclude required actions- Familiarity with Sony products- Must be highly self-motivated and able to work remotely and unsupervised when needed- Comfortable to work as a teammate in multicultural environment- Ideally knowledge of Sony organization- Proficient in English (and ideally also in at least one other European language)
