We offer sophisticated advice on the full range of trade matters, including economic sanctions, trade policy, legislation, compliance and enforcement, litigation before the European Courts, and administrative proceedings before the European Commission and Member States authorities. Our clients rely on the International Trade and Investment group to handle issues such as export and import controls, economic sanctions, foreign direct investment, trade agreement negotiations, and anti-dumping and subsidy investigations.
We closely collaborate with colleagues in our offices in the US, UK and elsewhere to provide multijurisdictional advice on the whole range of trade issues. With more than 40 offices in the United States, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East, Hogan Lovells is one of the few firms that can handle large, varied, and complex trade matters in every major world market. The team handles complex work at the cutting-edge of the issues of the day, whether those are EU and Member State export controls, FDI CBAM or the first FSR investigation.

Representative Experience
- Achieved a landmark victory for a US downstream petroleum manufacturer of fuels and petrochemical products in the transition review by the UK Trade
Remedies Authority of the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures on biodiesel, resulting in the removal of duties on imports of HVO from the US
- Secured a significant victory in a case before the Court of Justice of the European Union, in case C-182/19, in relation to the customs classification of a medical product
- Conducting the assessment of possible legal challenges pursuant to WTO and EU trade rules of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) Regulation for a non-EU steel manufacturer
- Represented one of the largest integrated palm oil producers on the termination of the anti-subsidy investigation into imports of fatty acids from Indonesia
- Assisted a sovereign government in Latin America in its successful free trade agreement negotiations with the EU
- Advising various clients on sanctions issues in the context of EURussia sanctions and other sanctions programme
- Advised on the winddown of a trade receivables program concluded between a leading European bank and an entity sanctioned pursuant to EU Russia sanctions
