We are looking for you, an ambitious master’s student (M/F), to support our Dow Performances Silicone Process R&D by doing an internship project in Kinetic study of polymerization using silicone monomers generated by a chemical recycling process for our location in Seneffe, Belgium.

The department that will welcome you is Dow Performances Silicone Process Research and Development. The position exists to support a growing pipeline of experimental products under development by Dow Performance Silicones. The work will be primarily in an R&D laboratory setting.
Project description
As product circularity and sustainability come into sharper focus globally, Dow sought to explore solutions to recycle a broad range of silicone feedstocks. Existing recycling methods for these materials rely on batch reactor process which is quite robust to depolymerize a range of silicone feedstocks but is not very efficient in product heating and in stripping. Batch process also leaves residuals solid by-product in the reactor requiring manual cleaning and disposal. Continuous depolymerization process is expected to be much more efficient would need lower amount of energy / kg of silicone recycled, would lead to higher conversion, would be significantly more efficient for highly filled silicones. The scope of the project is to synthetize silicone polymers from monomers collected from this recycling process and characterize their structure (viscosity, rheology, NMR). Impact of impurities on kinetics and polymer structure will be also studied.
