I. Background WWF Tanzania is part of WWF (The World Wide Fund for Nature), an international non-governmental organization that deals with conservation of nature through a number of environmental management programmes. Our mission is to stop the degradation of the Planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. WWF Tanzania seeks to recruit a communications intern who will work closely with the communications team in implementing the SIDA Leading the Change: Civil Society, Rights and Environment. The programme addresses issues of rights, capacity and roles of communities and civil society in natural resource management, advocacy and participation in decision-making across all of the six thematic areas: wildlife, forests, oceans, freshwater, climate & energy and food. All interventions are based on HRBA and equitable partnerships with the participating CSOs and communities. The programme desired change is People and communities in programme areas are effectively exercising their rights, controlling decisions and equitably receiving benefits from natural resources, and contributing to the sustainable management of key ecosystems and habitats. II. Main Function Under the technical guidance of Communications Officer the Communications intern will support in the delivery of outputs under the SIDA CSO Programme that are related to awareness-raising, communications and capacity strengthening in general; facilitating sharing knowledge, raising awareness and increase the programme visibility in the Ruvuma Landscape, partner institutions and other relevant stakeholders on issues relating to conservation of natural resources. III. Specific Duties and Responsibilities - Assist in developing and disseminating relevant program materials such as Human Interest Stories, proposals, factsheets, infographs etc. to target groups through relevant media and network channels. - Assist in developing and maintaining contact information, materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets (print, TV, radio, web etc.) within and outside Tanzania to increase coverage of conservation issues in the media (print, broadcast and digital). Specific activities may include: -Draft and edit articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials. -Collaborate with the media by organizing project site visits; facilitate photo coverage and TV footage and utilizing both web-based and traditional media as appropriate. - Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials. Maintain a library of media coverage, clippings etc. - Assist to provide content for WWF TCO website and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, instagram and YouTube etc). Monitor content on line and provide guidance and reactions and responses whenever needed. - Assist in timely and quality production of advocacy and branding materials such as briefing notes, Human Interest Stories, picture stories, videos, etc. - Events/campaigns: Assist in organizing and generating public support for special events and campaigns to promote strategic conservation goals. Support organization of workshops, seminars, campaigns, events and project review meetings including agendas and meeting minutes. - Assist communication officer to identifying opportunities for press coverage around events and specific publications and working with colleagues to develop targeted media strategies, including drafting press releases and pitching op-eds. - Assist communication officer in identifying and documenting appropriate content for producing appropriate communications materials, stories, articles, audio visuals, presentations, radio and television programmes. - Assist the communications officer in facilitating media engagement in the country for the purpose of increasing TCO’s and programme presence on the traditional media (Radio, Television and Newspapers) - Participate in relevant meetings and workshops for learning purpose and develop reports and presentations if necessary. - Perform other activities relating to communications as defined by WWF Tanzania Country Office - Maintain a good image of the organization to ensure that WWF remains among the most respected in the country and beyond, and - Produce performance report at the end of the internship period for assessment. Supervisor Role: - Introduce and orient intern to staff, stakeholders and overall work environment, - Provide guidance, coaching and counseling to the intern on the job role and competencies to be demonstrated. - Produce intern performance assessment report at the end of the internship period. IV. Profile Required Qualifications - University level education in Communications, Journalism or related field with experience in a similar position. - Extensive knowledge in graphic design and events management - Proven experience and track records in writing for development/conservation - Web maintenance and
