The Global Pharmaceutical Product Development and Supply (PPDS) organization, part of the Discovery, Product Development and Supply (DPDS) division of JJIM, is dedicated to developing advanced drug delivery solutions for J&Js Synthetic Modalities portfolio (small molecules, oligonucleotides, peptides, conjugates, etc ) Our development hubs span the US, Asia, and Europe, and comprise a network of vibrant and divers teams including over 200 dedicated professionals.

We are currently looking for a Scientific Director specialized in Oral Peptide Formulation Technologies at our R&D facility in Antwerp, Belgium. In this crucial position, you will be tasked with:

- Defining and implement the strategy for advanced oral peptide formulation development based on the must cutting edge science and latest advancements in this fast-evolving field.
- Guiding activities of a cross-functional team developing next generation solid and liquid drug delivery solutions for peptide therapeutics.
- Promoting innovation with a strong emphasis on patient centricity and product differentiation

Your Impact:
As a key member of Pharmaceutical Product Development and Supply, you will significantly influence the future of novel product and process development for J&J. Your role will entail a wide array of responsibilities, including:

- Leading Formulation Development efforts: In line with our strategy, identify novel formulation solutions to overcome the challenges of oral peptide therapeutics, through focus internal efforts and external strategic partnerships
- Driving Innovation: Enhance existing formulation and technology platforms, using your expertise to develop novel therapeutic peptide solutions. Identify external innovations in drug delivery specifically tailored for oral peptide delivery.
- Scientific team Leadership: Guide a cross-functional team of scientists dedicated to design and development of oral peptide delivery solutions, coaching and fostering talent development within the department.
- Strengthening Stakeholder Relationships: Build and maintain robust relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, collaborating with various departments such as Discovery Pharmaceutics, Preclinical and Clinical Development, Biopharmaceutical Sciences, Analytical Development, API Development, Clinical Supply Chain, and Regulatory.
- Collaborative Execution: Work closely with fellow scientists to design, plan, and carry out formulation development activities across our diverse product portfolio.
- Scientific Documentation: Diligently document scientific data and progress, contributing to regulatory submissions, scientific publications, intellectual property initiatives, and strategic decision-making.
- Regulatory, Quality and Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and performance-based occupational exposure levels.

**Qualifications**:

- Educational Background: A Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Industrial Pharmacy, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biological or Physical Sciences, or a related field, with at least 5 to 10 years of relevant industry and/or academic experience. Alternatively, a Bachelors or Masters Degree in relevant fields with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience.
- Formulation Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in formulation design and process development for oral peptides, encompassing both solid and liquid formulations and drug delivery systems. Familiarity with opportunities to enhance permeability and stability, as well as experience with targeted or local delivery is a distinct advantage.
- Pre-Formulation and Characterization Knowledge: Familiarity with pre-formulation activities and physico-chemical characterization of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and final drug products.
- Biopharmaceutical background: A solid understanding of the in vitro and in vivo performance of orally administered peptides, coupled with a comprehensive knowledge of biopharmaceutical principles in pharmaceutical and clinical development of oral peptides, would be valuable assets for this position as well.
- Novel Technological Implementation: Proven expertise in identification and implementing advanced novel technologies related to pharmaceutical product development, with the ability to determine critical quality attributes, process parameters, and material attributes.
