Rail Manager

UITP (International Association of Public Transport) is a passionate champion of sustainable urban mobility and is the only worldwide network to bring together all public transport stakeholders and all sustainable transport modes. Our members are public transport authorities and operators, policy decision-makers, research institutes and the public transport supply and service industry.

We are currently looking for a: Rail Manager (Based in Brussels)

The Rail Manager will be a member of the UITP Rail Unit, within the Knowledge and Innovation (K&I) Department.

The role includes, in particular, the provision of expertise and technical added value both to the rail Committees (Metro, Light Rail, Regional and Suburban Railways) and to projects funded by the European Commission and other EU and International Institutions, in which the Unit is involved.

He/She will work in close contact with the Rail Unit Managers and the Rail Officer, actively contributing to the activities of the Unit.

He/She will contribute to the production of technical UITP and project publications, and to strategic documents for which UITP contribution will be required, in close contact with the K&I Department Director and Rail Unit colleagues.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide technical / operational expertise in the field of Urban and Sub-urban Rail to support members, unit activities and projects by:

- Contributing to the activities of the Rail Unit, in particular technical deliverables of projects and UITP publications in the field of urban rail
- Reviewing all urban rail-related K&I publications, in close liaison with the authors and the K&I Directors;
- Contribute with rail unit colleagues to establish UITP priorities for urban rail activities, interacting with UITP members from the different regions by identifying their needs and the measures to support them, in liaison with the Rail Unit Managers, and in coordination with the K&I Director;
- Actively contribute to the creation, identification and execution of Funded Projects opportunities, in particular in the frame of the new EU Rail research partnership, promoting the presence and role of urban rail stakeholders and the research priorities of urban and suburban rail stakeholders
- Contribute to UITP Academy activities (trainings, peer reviews ) related to urban rail, in close liaison with the Head of Training;
- Participate in meetings, workshops, congresses, conferences and all relevant events, representing UITP.
- Promote the association positions by representing urban rail interests in the various UITP Bodies and Platforms at European and International levels;

Profile
- University degree or equivalent;
- Proven knowledge of rail sector, operational and technical aspects, like asset management, maintenance, automation and of the most disruptive trends affecting the rail sector (digitalisation, automation, connectivity, etc.) will be particularly appreciated;
- Proven experience in working in an international context and understanding of rail stakeholders interests and priorities;
- Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of other languages will be considered as an asset;
- Public speaking skills. Training skills will be considered as an asset;
- Proven capacity to write high quality documents/publications;
- Capacity to work both as part of a team (managing groups of people) but also autonomously;
- Expertise/understanding of the European Commission (or other Institutions) co-funded projects will be considered as an asset;
- Familiarity with European Institutions rail related bodies (Europe’s Rail (S2R JU), ERRAC) and their functioning will be considered an asset;
- IT literate;
- Good relational competences (ability to listen, empathy, ability to handle conflicts, teamwork, positivity, enthusiasm);
- Sense of initiative, problem solving, analytical thinking, proactivity;
- Ability to manage time and prioritise tasks, within tight time constraints, excellent planning and organisational skills;
- Flexibility and service mindedness, ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
