The Department of Clinical Sciences of the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) concentrates on patient-based research, training and medical services both in Belgium and in developing countries, with emphasis on tropical and infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS. The department also runs the Medical Services, an outpatient clinic, where among others travellers are prepared for their trip or evaluated in case of illness after their return. The HIV reference centre of the clinic is in charge of multidisciplinary service delivery, expert advice, research, and training in all aspects of HIV medicine and STI’s.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed head of our HIV reference centre. In this role you will manage a multidisciplinary team of medical doctors and paramedics with whom you can further develop the activities and optimize the different processes of our HIV/STI centre, including PrEP and low threshold STI screening. You collaborate with the other reference groups in the medical services, with the clinical reference laboratory and with the academic unit of STI’s. You report to the head of the medical services.

**Your role**

  • You will lead and coordinate the multidisciplinary team.
  • You will predominantly work as a specialist in the ITM outpatient clinic with a main focus on follow-up of HIV patients and HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis. As HIV expert and head of the HIV/STI reference centre, you will ensure the quality of our patient care in these domains.
  • You will maintain and strengthen the network with our partners/collaborators (UZA, Belgian HIV reference centra, BREACH consortium, Sciensano, etc.) and funding agencies (RIZIV/INAMI, life sciences, etc).
  • You will contribute to different teaching initiatives throughout ITM in the field of HIV/AIDS.
  • You will contribute to research activities and studies on HIV and STI in collaboration with all departments.

**Your profile**

  • You are a medical doctor with a specialization in internal medicine, infectiology or related specialization, certified and registered to practice as an internist or a clinical infectiologist in Belgium.
  • You have minimum 10 years of clinical experience and significant experience in the field of HIV and STI.
  • Having experience in leadership and management is a strong asset.
  • You can develop, translate and disseminate a vision and strategy in an inspirational manner to a team.
  • As a medical expert you have attention for quality of care, are focused on the interests of our patients and you are promotor of a multidisciplinary approach on care.
  • As a teamleader you have good social skills and a strong capacity for empathy. You are a team-oriented personality and always trying to connect people and activities.
  • You communicate fluently in Dutch, French and English, written and orally.
