Head of Engineering (Payroll or Freelance)Belgium | Software Development IndustryI'm supporting several clients in Belgium who are looking for a Head of Engineering with strong, hands-on experience in building software products end-to-end. This opportunity is ideal for senior engineering leaders — including former CTOs or technical leads — who still enjoy staying close to the technology while guiding teams and shaping technical direction.This role is available on a full-time payroll basis or as a freelance/contract engagement.What You'll DoLead and develop engineering teams across backend, frontend, and platform domainsDrive technical strategy, architectural decisions, and long-term product evolutionStay hands-on where needed (architecture, design reviews, troubleshooting, coaching)Oversee software delivery from concept to deployment with high quality standardsCollaborate closely with Product, Design, and leadership stakeholdersImprove engineering processes, development practices, and delivery efficiencyMentor engineers, influence technical culture, and support hiring when requiredEnsure products are scalable, reliable, secure, and built for long-term growthWhat We're Looking For8+ years of experience in software engineeringProven track record of building and shipping real products end-to-endStrong experience in architectural design and technical decision-makingPrevious leadership experience (Head of Engineering, Team Lead, Tech Lead, former CTO, etc.)Solid understanding of modern software development, cloud environments, and CI/CDStrong communication, collaboration, and leadership skillsNice to HaveExperience managing multiple engineering teams or functionsBackground in .NET, React, or cloud-native platformsExperience modernizing systems, introducing new technology, or scaling engineering capabilityPassion for mentoring, coaching, and building high-performing teamsEngagement OptionsPayroll (Full-Time) – Strategic leadership role with long-term impactFreelance/ContractInterested?If you're open to exploring new opportunities in Belgium, feel free to reach out with your CV or portfolio.
