Descriptif du poste Contexte is seeking two part-time freelance experienced English language subeditors to ensure it meets our top-quality journalistic standards. About Contexte Contexte is an independent media outlet: employee-owned with a subscription-only model. Our mission is to provide policy professionals with the information they need to make decisions. Contexte establishes a new standard of quality information by delivering and curating the most factual, in-depth policy news and analysis. This Is Why We Offer expertise to help our readers navigate complex environments. Provide deep, nuanced and verified analysis to get as close as possible to the facts. Maintain independence from external influences through economic and editorial autonomy. The company has grown rapidly since its launch in 2013. Today, we are a team of over 120, including more than 35 people working out of the Brussels newsroom. Our products are designed to provide timely, actionable information, so professionals can stay ahead of developments and make informed decisions for their organisations. Our policy news is delivered every morning to the inbox of 16,000 readers spread across 1,700 subscribed organisations (private companies, NGOs, public administrations, consultancies and law firms). Our current French-language verticals span energy, transport, agri-food, environment, health, tech, and media policies, and the exercise of political power. Over the past year, we have been adapting and expanding our reporting reach with news products targeted at the EU market, in English. The first of these, a vertical on energy, launched in May 2025, has proven a success. It was followed in March 2026 by Power — decoding the political and institutional dynamics of the EU. A new vertical in English, focusing on environmental issues will be launched early next year.

About The Role
Your mission will be to review and correct the copy in our morning daily briefing, and in articles, interviews and infographics published on Contexte EU. You’ll have to spot typos, trim unnecessary verbiage and resolve errors, to ensure our readers can understand the things they need to know, quickly and unambiguously. In some cases, you’ll have to interact with our team of French
- and English-speaking journalists as you make changes; in others, you’ll have to act independently, quickly and decisively to improve copy. This will be a few hours’ work a day, for two or three days a week. To fit with our production timelines, that will normally require working early in the morning, to send our daily briefing by 8am European time. The work could be done from our offices in Paris or Brussels, by teleworking, or even from a different timezone. You’d share a rota with one other person, to ensure someone’s on shift each weekday.

Profil recherché
Outstanding attention to detail: someone able to spot errors and abolish redundancy, jargon and waffle. A native-level English speaker, with a passion for presenting technical topics simply and engagingly, in a clean, crisp style. Significant experience working in drafting, editing and proofreading, preferably in a newsroom or other journalistic environment. Ability to work under pressure, delivering reliably to tight daily production deadlines. Constructive and reactive with colleagues, communicating clearly and diplomatically, while also working independently and professionally.
