🚀 Ready to join our R&D team?
As a Principal Engineer at Azumuta, you operate at chief-architect altitude: you take on the largest, most ambiguous problems in our roadmap and turn them into shipped, well-structured software, largely on your own steam. You're given real workstreams and real trust: you can go heads-down on a hard problem and come back with something clean, coherent and production-ready, without needing anyone to check in on the how.
You spend a significant part of your time building real product capabilities across our stack (Node.js, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines). At the same time, you shape how the wider team builds, ships and operates software; not by mandating process from above, but by showing what good looks like through your own work and carrying people along with you.
You continuously ask questions like:
How do we build our product faster while still owning our code, architecture, and technical decisions?
How do we use AI and agentic development to increase leverage without ending up with a codebase nobody truly understands?
How do we run fast experiments and short learning cycles while still shipping reliable SaaS software?
You work closely with Product to take in real customer problems and direction and you're comfortable being the translation layer: turning product input into clear technical scope, and clearly conveying trade-offs and progress back the other way.
🚀 What You’ll Be Doing in detail:
A. Build:
Solve complex product problems
Design and implement robust full-stack solutions for complex industrial workflows. Collaborate with Product to translate real-world manufacturing problems into clear, usable software — and help shape what gets built, not just how.
Own the stack end to end
Work across backend APIs, frontend components, data flows, and integrations. Improve performance, reliability, and maintainability across the platform. You don't hand off the parts you find less interesting — you see problems through from initiative to delivery.
Ship fast, without breaking things
Write clean, scalable, well-tested code. Balance speed with long-term quality and technical ownership.
Build secure, scalable SaaS systems
Contribute to a platform that is secure, resilient, and ready to scale to thousands of users across multiple markets.
Measure and improve
Use metrics, incidents, and user feedback to continuously improve reliability, performance, and usability.
B. Guide:
Lead by example
You don't install new practices top-down or through formal process. You raise the bar by doing the work at a high standard, visibly and consistently, and bringing others along with you.
Take on large, ambiguous workstreams independently
You're trusted to run with a big, loosely-defined block of work — the kind that takes weeks, not days — and return with something structured and finished, without needing close direction along the way.
Shape agentic development responsibly
Be a champion for AI-assisted and agentic development. Experiment, set an example through your own use of it, and help the team move faster without losing control over product knowledge or system complexity.
Translate between product and engineering
Take in direction and input from Product, and communicate clearly in both directions — turning ambiguous problems into technical scope, and technical trade-offs into something Product can act on.
Strengthen SaaS operational maturity
Bring real-world SaaS experience into everyday decisions: monitoring, alerting, incident awareness, infrastructure as code, and cost-quality trade-offs.
🎯 You’d Be a Great Fit If You…
Have worked on a real SaaS product in production, and have seen incidents, outages, and operational trade-offs first-hand.
Can operate with a high degree of autonomy — you don't need a project broken down for you, and you're comfortable being handed a large, ambiguous block of work and running with it.
Take initiative and full ownership end to end: you spot what needs doing, pick it up yourself, and carry it all the way through rather than handing pieces off or waiting to be assigned.
Have gone heads-down on a hard problem for an extended stretch and come back with clean, well-structured, finished output.
Influence how a team works through the example you set, not through formal authority or top-down process.
Believe in straight talk: you can disagree openly with a peer's approach or a product decision, focused on the topic and not the person, rather than letting friction go unsaid.
Communicate clearly and translate well between product thinking and technical execution.
Are comfortable with modern CI/CD, testing culture, and code review rigor.
Stay hands-on and dive into code when it matters — this is not a purely advisory role.
Are willing and able to learn our tech stack quickly. Mindset beats prior framework knowledge.
