The energy sector is changing fast. New technologies, new market mechanisms and an increasingly complex energy system are reshaping the way electricity markets operate.
For a major player in the Belgian energy sector, we’re looking for a Business Analyst – Energy who wants to work at the heart of these developments.
This is not your typical IT Business Analyst role. You’ll combine data analysis, market operations, problem-solving and stakeholder collaboration while building valuable expertise in the Belgian energy market.
Already an energy expert? Great. Not yet? That's perfectly fine. We’re primarily looking for someone who’s analytically strong, curious and eager to understand how complex systems work.
What you’ll be working on
You’ll contribute to the operation and further development of an important mechanism within the Belgian electricity market, helping ensure that our energy system remains reliable and future-proof.
Your role will be varied. You’ll:
- Analyse technical, financial and operational data and translate your findings into clear recommendations.
- Help run and monitor key energy-market processes, from participant qualification and market operations to performance monitoring and settlement.
- Dive into complex or exceptional cases and work with different experts to find the right solution.
- Monitor KPIs, calculations and market results and contribute to internal and external reporting.
- Work with internal experts and external market participants to answer questions and solve operational challenges.
- Look for opportunities to make processes simpler, smarter and more efficient through digitalisation, automation and continuous improvement.
- Test new functionalities and help ensure that new solutions work in practice.
- Gradually become a go-to expert in your domain, taking on more responsibility as your knowledge grows.
You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues, so you’re not expected to master the complexity of the energy market from day one. The role is explicitly designed to allow someone to build deeper subject-matter expertise over time.
Who are we looking for?
We’re deliberately keeping the profile broad.
You might currently be working as a Business Analyst, Operations Analyst, Energy Analyst, Consultant, Process Analyst or in another analytical role.
You’ll probably feel at home in this position if you:
- Have a Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Business, Finance, Data Analytics or a related field.
- Have around 2–5 years of relevant professional experience in analysis, operations, consulting, process management, financial operations or a similar environment.
- Enjoy working with data, numbers and complex problems.
- Are comfortable with Excel and have strong analytical skills.
- Like understanding how processes and systems actually work.
- Are structured and accurate, while still keeping sight of the bigger picture.
- Can work independently, take ownership and manage different priorities.
- Enjoy collaborating with people from different areas of expertise.
- Are fluent in English and Dutch or French, with at least a basic understanding of the other national language.
Experience in energy is a plus, not a must. Experience with Python or other data-analysis tools is also a nice‑to‑have rather than a requirement.
Why this role?
This is a strong opportunity if you’re looking for something beyond a classic Business Analyst position.
You’ll get the chance to build real expertise in the Belgian energy market while working on topics that have a tangible impact on how our future energy system operates.
You’ll gain exposure to energy markets, data, financial processes, regulation, digitalisation and a broad range of stakeholders — rather than being confined to one narrow area.
And as your expertise grows, so will your responsibility.
Complex enough to keep you learning.
Broad enough to keep you growing.
Relevant to one of the biggest transformations happening in our economy.
Interested, but don’t tick every box?
We’re much more interested in your analytical ability, curiosity and willingness to learn than in finding someone who already knows every detail of the Belgian electricity market. Energy‑sector knowledge is explicitly considered an advantage rather than a prerequisite.
