Position description

The Alliance for gender equality in Europe is looking for a Communication and Learning Manager for a one-year (renewable) contract based in Brussels to coordinate the communication and learning activities. Application deadline: 14 January 2023.

Background

The Alliance for gender equality in Europe (the Alliance) is a donors collaborative created in 2021 to support progress for gender equality and women’s rights in Europe. It is composed by Bodossaki Foundation, Fondation CHANEL, Fondation de France, Fondation RAJA-Danièle Marcovici, JPMorgan Chase, King Baudouin Foundation and L’Oréal Fund for Women and hosted by the Network of European Foundations (NEF). Through grants, capacity strengthening and awareness raising, the Alliance strengthens small frontline organisations achieving a just and fair society for all through gender equality.

NEF provides the legal structure for the donor’s collaborative and will issue the contract for the Communications and Learning Manager. The Alliance is designed by the foundations that own the initiative (Steering Committee Members). NEF carries out the implementation of the Alliance’s strategy through its dedicated programme team. The current team is composed of a Senior Programme Manager and a Programme Officer.

Since its creation the Alliance has developed intensively. In order to sustain this growth, the Alliance aims to reinforce its communication, awareness-raising and learning activities and is recruiting a Communications and Learning Manager.

About the job

The following roles will be taken up by the Communications and Learning Manager in coordination with the Senior Programme Manager, the Programme Officer, the NEF operations team and the Steering committee members of the Alliance, which is the key governance body of the Alliance for Gender Equality in Europe.

Communication

  • Contribute to the development of the communication and awareness-raising strategy by crafting narratives and specific editorials for our diverse communication channels (website, LinkedIn, newsletter…) and our diverse target audiences and to their ‘translation’ into realistic work packages;
  • Ensure the on-time and up to standard implementation of communication activities such as:
    • Coordinate the annual report of the Alliance;
    • Be responsible for our social media channels and website and ensure we are maximising their impact;
    • Write blogposts and brief reports to share insights about our grantees and the fund’s work;
    • Design and implement meetings, workshops and other convenings for grantees, funders and other partners;
    • Coordinate research that will serve as evidence for our awareness-raising work.
  • Manage the communication budget together with the Senior Programme Manager;
  • Liaise with and monitor communications related consultants and service providers;
  • Monitor and evaluate our communications work;
  • Attend workshops and events related to our work;
  • Initiate and cultivate meaningful and interdependent relations with relevant stakeholders.

Learning, Monitoring & Evaluation (LME)

  • Contribute to the design of the Learning, Monitoring & Evaluation framework and ensure a learning culture within the Alliance;
  • Implement the fund’s LME processes and activities such as:
    • Coordinate data collection and learning extractions from all the activities of the Alliance (grant making, capacity strengthening, communication, development);
    • Review regularly the LME framework;
    • Enable and engage partners to identify, apply and share their learnings and contribute to the sensemaking of data and learning to inform strategy;
    • Identify and share success stories, challenges and lessons learned in donor reporting and other communications;
    • Engage with grantees in their learning processes and provide support when needed.
  • Manage the LME budget together with the Senior Programme Manager;
  • Liaise with and monitor LME related consultants and service providers.

Coordination

  • Keep abreast of the funds strategic direction and ensure that communication and LME are informed by the strategy;
  • Communicate the strategic direction of the fund to partners and grantees; helping them to apply the overall strategy to their work and context;
  • Keep abreast of the priorities and activities of our funding and grantee partners, understand their needs and where there are points of connection between them and more widely with the ecosystem;
  • Stay up to date with priorities in European philanthropy and gender equality.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential skills and experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience;
  • Experience working (paid or volunteer) in non-profit organisations;
  • Experience in communication;
  • Experience in Learning, Monitoring & Evaluation;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Good at building and maintaining productive working relationships with people from a wide diversity of background, both in person and online;
  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to anticipate, prioritize and make informed decisions within competing deadlines;
  • Ability to work autonomously and be a team player;
  • Be adaptable and flexible as part of a small and fast-changing organisation;
  • Committed to the Alliance vision and mission, NEF values and to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Desirable skills

  • Experience working with philanthropic organisations and multi-actor collaborations;
  • Experience or knowledge in the field of gender equality in Europe.

BENEFITS

  • A 1-year contract with the prospect of becoming an indefinite contract;
  • A gross salary between 3 300€ & 4 200€ monthly depending on experience with additional benefits (13th month, lunch vouchers, homeworking allowance…);
  • A full-time position (37.5 hours per week) – terms to be mutually discussed and agreed upon;
  • Position based in Brussels with two days of remote work per week.

The position requires some European travel.
