Role: Senior Java Software EngineerLocation: Brussels, BelgiumContract: 12 monthsRate: FlexibleWe are looking for a Senior Java Software Engineer to join a high-performing technology team responsible for building and modernising mission-critical financial systems in a regulated environment.The role focuses on the design and development of cloud-ready, event-driven Java services, operating at scale and integrating with both modern platforms and legacy backend systems.You will work as part of an Agile delivery team, collaborating closely with architects, technical leads, and other engineers to deliver robust, secure, and performant solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain Java-based microservices using modern frameworksContribute to event-driven and service-oriented architecturesEnsure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements (performance, resilience, security)Align implementations with enterprise architecture and engineering standardsParticipate in solution design walkthroughs and peer reviewsUndertake hands-on development while mentoring more junior engineersSupport delivery across the full SDLC, including testing, deployment, and post-production supportRequired Technical SkillsStrong core Java development experienceHands-on experience with Spring Boot and microservicesExperience building containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes / OpenShiftPractical experience with event streaming platforms (e.g. Kafka)Experience developing and deploying on Linux / Unix environmentsSolid understanding of object-oriented design and clean code principlesExperience with test-driven and behaviour-driven developmentExposure to performance profiling and tuningNice to HaveExperience in regulated or financial services environmentsKnowledge of messaging standards (e.g. JSON)Familiarity with DevOps practices and toolingExposure to legacy systems or mainframe integration
