You are regularly
enrolled in a Master of engineering in bioinformatics in an Educational Establishment located in Europe.

Language requirement:
English proficiency, French is a plus

Other requirements:

knowledge of structural biology and bioinformatics; good skills in programming (R and Python) and statistics (descriptive and multivariate) are required.


Start date:
April 10th, 2023

Duration: 3 months (ending on July 31st, 2023)

Requisite:

The internship must be mandatory & done in the framework of the curriculum, for which an agreement must be signed between GSK, the student and the Educational Establishment.


Remuneration:
according to Belgian legal requirements, the internship will not be paid. However, some expenses will be reimbursed.

What will you do?:


On our internship programme you'll receive tailored on-the-job training from industry experts combined with early responsibility to help you to develop and progress.


Your duties might include:


Comparison of protein 3D structures that were determined by both NMR and X-ray crystallography to inform on the flexibility of local 3D structure and solvent accessible surface area (SASA) of amino acids.


  • Literature review.
  • Identify 3D structures determined by both NMR and Xray crystallography.
  • Running tools to compute SASA for all amino acids and compute local 3D structure similarity (RMSD or other metrics).
  • Statistical analysis to determine the distributions of SASA and RMSD in both experimental techniques and determine the best metrics/statistics that will lead to an experimental technique independent value. Determine the relation between RMSD, SASA and other cofactors.
  • Writing intermediate presentation and final report

If time is left at the end of the internship, the student could perform additional task such as:

  • Use criteria other than RSMD, such as TM-Score or GDT-TS (C-alpha or all atoms).
  • In case of linear B cell epitope, is there any difference in the variation of SASA or local 3D structure.
  • Determine SASA statistical threshold to select most linear B cell epitopes.
