The Government of Canada’s Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) is a worldwide network of professionals in international business development, with preferred access to business knowledge and contacts, who are committed to advancing Canadian interests abroad.

Under the direction of the Commercial Counsellor, the incumbent will:

- Develop knowledge in assigned industry sectors, together with the political and economic context of local market conditions, to respond effectively to Canadian business client enquiries;
- Research and analyze commercial intelligence to inform Canadian business clients of market conditions and opportunities;
- Proactively build relationships with local contacts and participate in local and international trade conferences to promote Canada and facilitate introductions to Canadian business clients;
- Organize and execute high level visits and trade events;
- Prepare business plans and track client engagement.

Profiel

Essential qualifications
- Language will be assessed further during the process.

**Education**:
University degree from a recognized institution with a major in a discipline related to the position (e.g. Engineering, Commerce, Marketing, Business Administration, International Trade, Economics, etc.).

**Language**:
Ability to communicate effectively* in both official languages of Canada: English and French (speaking, reading and writing). *Communicate effectively is considered to be the equivalent to C1 level per the Common European framework of reference for languages in one of the two official languages and B1 in the other.

**Experience**:

- A minimum of three (3) years of recent* professional experience in business development, investment prospection, project management, event organization or communications;
- Experience in managing relationships with clients or partners and providing customer support services;
- Experience in preparing presentations, conducting research and drafting reports;
- Recent experience is defined as within the last five (5) years.

Rated requirements

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview online, pre-recorded or in-person, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:

- Knowledge of Canada: economy, industry and export promotion;
- Knowledge of Belgian business, markets, trade trends and opportunities and local business practices;
- Understanding of international business development practices, including excellence in client service delivery, market research, competitive intelligence gathering, and general project management principles.

Competencies:

- Demonstrate strong networking and interpersonal skills to create and maintain a network of contacts;
- Ability to research and analyze business intelligence and provide strategic advice;
- Ability to communicate clearly (oral and writing) in English and French (see language levels above).

Abilities:

- Demonstrate a strong client-service orientation;
- Ability to prioritize, adapt and demonstrate flexibility in response to multiple demands;
- Ability to function as part of and contribute to a team;
