The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 1000 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

As towns, cities and countries around the world declare climate emergencies, seas rise, forests burn, glaciers melt, increasing numbers of people take to the streets demanding urgent action and our societies begin to wake up to what the science has been saying for many years, there has never been a more important time to be working on climate change.

The advertised position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC) - a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a collaborative project hosted by the ECF.

Through our work, we try to contribute to a world with a safe and stable climate for current and future generations. We hope to build broad support for just, inclusive, and equitable solutions to the climate crisis.

Our philanthropically funded work focuses on media debate and public discourse at the global level and in major economies across Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia and the Americas. We support a diverse range of partners across sectors and geographies, helping them add their voices, views, and insights to the conversation.

**Position**:
The GSCC is looking for a **Sport + climate campaigns associate** with **a passion for sport and track record of working on campaigns to shift global governments, corporates and institutions.**

We are looking for someone who can develop creative and strategically sound campaigns - and who wants to put that to use in the fight against climate change.

We’re looking for a character who understands the power of sport to touch and influence key audiences, with the experience of building and nurturing campaigning coalitions.

These are vital moments in the struggle to save the planet and future generations from the worst impacts of climate change.

It’s more important than ever that we campaign and communicate effectively across all sectors, using all the tools at our disposal - including a fast-growing digital unit.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Developing and implementing a campaign strategy to kick fossil fuels out of global sport
- Sourcing, building and maintaining a diverse coalition of partners in the sport & climate space, supporting them with campaigning, communications and media relations
- Acting as the sport & sponsorship point person for an international network of peers, amplifying latest developments across global media markets
- Developing proactive media work, e.g. expanding and maintaining media relationships in order to brief journalists, hosting field trips for on-the-ground investigations/features and developing digital strategies, as well as proactively pitching stories and reactive media management
- Developing structures and approaches that can react quickly to emerging opportunities and changes in the external context, while working with an international network to deliver relevant communications content and collateral, localized/tailored for respective audiences
- Monitoring, evaluation and reporting on communications efforts (including some financial and administrative tasks)

**Requirements**:

- Strong experience of campaign and coalition building - and ideally some experience of planning digital media around them.
- A solid understanding of the political, media and climate landscape
- In general, a good understanding of the sport sector
- Strong diplomatic skills and interpersonal relations, ability to quickly build trust with partners and colleagues
- Excellent time and priority management, high level of self-motivation, independence and can-do mentality, good team-player with a passion for excellence
- Fluency in English
- The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust and values based global community of peers
- The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide
- ranging work environment and work across phone/video conferencing, time zones, etc.
- A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to climate and energy issues
