We are looking for a **Global Medical Lead - Thymidine Kinase 2 deficiency (TK2d)/Mitochondrial Disease** who is **experienced in Rare/Ultra-rare Genetic or Metabolic Diseases** to join us in our **Global Rare medical team in the Rare Disease Organization (RDO)** team, based in our **HQ in Brussels, Belgium, orone of the other hub locations in Europe: UK, Switzerland (preferably) or potentially East coast US, (Boston or Atlanta)**
**About the role**
The global medical lead (GML) Thymidine Kinase 2 deficiency (TK2d)/Mitochondrial Disease is a member of the Rare Medical team, reports to the Global Medical Indication Lead (GMIL) and provides therapeutic area expertise - defined as a deep understanding of the relevant disease and its physician and patient journey. The Global Medical lead has the scientific, clinical, or academic credentials and experience to be able to engage with thought leaders and other stakeholders in the therapeutic area (TA).

We’re driven by patient value, not patient numbers. People with rare diseases often feel forgotten, unheard or misunderstood. **What you’ll do***
- Working with the Global Medical Indication Lead (GMIL) and the cross-functional team to develop and execute the global medical strategy and related tactics, appropriately aligned with overall UCB/RDO strategy as a standing member of the Global Medical Indication Team (GMIT).
- Providing medical leadership as Global Medical representative on project-based teams for the indication.
- Acting as a company representative with external scientific leaders/physicians, patient organizations and regulatory authorities
- Establishing strategic world-wide partnerships with small numbers of centers of excellence (CoE) and thought leaders in the Rare Disease space. Building strong relationships, based on patient focus, integrity, and trust with the network and ecosystem of the specific indication to demonstrate UCB’s long term commitment to the disease area, and to leverage this network to provide world class expertise to guide the evidence generation plan for maximal patient benefit.
- Identifying data and insight gaps and define strategies and tactics to address these gaps proactively using a diverse selection of appropriate methods to generate insights and data (e.g., advisory boards, scientific data generation efforts, other).
- Provide Medical Leadership for proactive and reactive scientific communication to raise disease awareness and to communicate about the treatment value as this evidence grows, using publications, scientific presentations, and other external communication platforms, ensuring transparency and consistency.
- Ensuring that the treatment value is articulated in a scientific way in the framework of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) discussion.
- Ensuring in close collaboration with Patient Engagement and the Safety Lead that communication with patients about benefit/risk is using the right lay language, resulting in a balanced presentation of the benefit/risk
**Detailed responsibilities may include**
- Support development and execution of the global medical strategy, global/regional/local tactical plans, and evidence generation plan. This will require close collaboration with the GMIL, the Scientific Communication, Publication, Patient Engagement and Evidence Generation Leads, other cross-functional partners and regional/local representatives.
- Support medical review and approval of medical, promotional, and meeting materials
- Review and contribute to regulatory obligations in close collaboration with the filing team
- As delegated by the GMIL, lead functional and project teams (e.g., publications, medical communications, medical training) in developing plans supporting global medical strategy and collaborate with commercial/market access to ensure aligned and medically appropriate commercial strategy, planning, and execution of the Patient Value Brand Plan
