Within BASF Seeds and Traits R&D, Pest Control teams identify and validate trait solutions to protect agriculture crops against damage from insect and nematode species. Disease Control teams identify and validate trait solutions that protect crops against damage caused by microbes and viruses.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
The Lab Support group in Trait Research provides support to the research laboratories by delivering qualitative media and solutions, managing stock requests, archiving of strains, managing purchase orders, managing washing services, autoclaving and maintenance of lab equipment, in an operational organization aimed at mínimal cost and timelines while ensuring required quality.
For the Lab Support group in our R&D Innovation Center in Ghent (Belgium) we are looking for enthusiastic technicians.
What you can expect:
- In this role you will be part of our Lab Support group performing supportive activities at a competitive cost, speed and quality.
- As a Technician, you will be hands-on involved in the execution and organization of supporting activities such as delivering of media, solutions and managing stock requests.
- You will also strain and competent cell archiving, purchase orders, washing and autoclaving, maintenance of lab equipment, etc.
- You will plan and execute your work independently, in alignment with the team goals and plans set by your supervisor.
- You will record information on media, solutions, etc. in the relevant databases (LIMS) to ensure traceability and quality and propose appropriate development actions to the supervisor.
- You will contribute to optimizing protocols and workflows and you will troubleshoot where needed.
- You will contribute to automation and optimization of lab support activities.
- You will act as a recognized role model with respect to ensuring compliance with all existing company standards (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, Biosafety, Stewardship, 5S,...) in the area of responsibility.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- You have an A2 or HBO 5 degree (or equivalent through experience).
- You are a team player.
- Hands-on experience in relevant aspects of lab supporting activities.
- You are positive, enthusiastic, pragmatic and you have a getting-things-done mentality.
- You are accurate and technical independent.
- You have a good knowledge and understanding of technical protocols and can contribute in optimizing them.
- You are able to self-assess the quality of the media and solutions you produce and troubleshoot when needed.
- You are self-organized, able to plan and organize your work on a weekly basis and align with your colleagues.
- You have advanced computer skills (Microsoft office) and operational knowledge of relevant software and databases (LIMS).
- You are digital savvy and have an eye for process automation opportunities.
- You have effective communication skills, both verbally and written in Dutch and English.
- You are an innovative thinker in process & efficiency improvement.
