**About the European Coalition for Corporate Justice (ECCJ)**

With 20 member groups who represent over 480 organisations from 17 countries, ECCJ is the only European coalition bringing together European campaigns and national platforms of NGOs, trade unions, consumer organisations and academics to promote corporate accountability.

The coalition is driven by a vision of a sustainable world in which corporations’ drive for profit is balanced by the interests of society at large, and where businesses respect human, social and environmental rights. We seek to tackle some of the root causes of corporate injustice by improving European laws governing activities of business and their impacts on people and planet.

ECCJ works as a catalyst, drawing on the expertise and experience of organisations across Europe to provide a united voice at the EU level promoting the need for legal change. ECCJ is currently focused on the EU Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence Directive and coordinates/plays a central role in the broader civil society movement following this legislative process.

**Position summary**

We are looking for a Communications Manager to join our team. The Communications Manager will grow our profile by implementing ECCJ’s current communications strategy. They will ideally be:

- A strategic and innovative communications lead who can join our small but growing team, taking the organisation to the next level
- Highly motivated to hold corporations accountable, sharing ECCJ’s vision for justice
- Skilled across all areas of communications, including copywriting, proofreading, graphic design and digital campaigning, capable of promoting key messages in traditional and social media
- A reliable and organised individual who is attentive to detail
- A team player who can also work autonomously

The Communications Manager will be based in Brussels and will report to ECCJ’s Director General. They will work in close cooperation with ECCJ policy officers as well as other communications colleagues at ECCJ members.

**Responsibilities**

Strategy (20%)
- Deliver and update ECCJ’s current communications strategy, including for media and social media to ensure growth, engagement and sustainability;
- Implement a coherent editorial style and tone for the coalition;
- Act as guardian of ECCJ’s branding;
- Work closely with member NGOs and key partners across Europe in order to align and improve communication on corporate accountability;
- Provide strategic communications advice and guidance in the Justice is Everybody’s Business campaign.

Press (20%)
- Lead in identifying opportunities, pitching stories and securing commentary in relevant news coverage;
- Support the writing of opinion pieces and blog posts;
- Lead in the drafting and editing of press releases and media advisories;
- Build relationships with journalists, consultants and experts and maintain an internal database;
- Organise press interviews and press briefings;
- Monitor press coverage.

Social media (20%)
- Social media planning, copywriting, designing, posting, community management and analytics on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook;
- Manage the production of videos and other communications outputs for social media.

Publications (10%)
- Transform policy papers and other advocacy tools into attractive and easily accessible communications outputs.

Website (10%)
- Review, further develop, maintain and manage the content for ECCJ’s main website and project websites.

Other tasks (20%)
- Support the preparation of designed materials for internal, public and advocacy events;
- Manage the design and delivery of ECCJ-branded materials;
- Co-manage the communications budget across multiple grants;
- Find and manage freelance designers, copywriters, videographers, photographers etc.
- Provide or arrange communications trainings for the team;
- Manage licenses needed for communications (Adobe, Shutterstock, Canva, Mailchimp etc.).

**Knowledge, skills and abilities**

Required:

- A commitment to the vision and mission of ECCJ;
- At least 3 years’ work experience in communications, campaigning, public outreach, media/journalism, copywriting or marketing (including relevant traineeships), ideally in NGOs;
- Experience of developing and delivering a communication strategy;
- Good understanding of social media channels;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to articulate clear messages to different audiences;
- Excellent written English at native speaker level;
- High level of IT skills and knowledge of WordPress and Mailchimp (or similar tools);
- Familiarity with civil society and trade union networks in Europe;
- Hands-on mentality, able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously;
- Ability to work autonomously, effectively and efficiently
- At least a basic understanding of EU institutions and political context;
- Be a citizen of an EU member state or have a valid residence and work permit for Belgium.
