The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) is globally recognized as a center of excellence for research, education and services in the field of tropical medicine and international health. ITM works on these domains with multiple research and academic partner institutes in low
- and middle-income countries.
The Ecohealth Group within the Department of Public Health brings together researchers from different backgrounds and disciplines, recognizing the need for comprehensive, systemic approaches to understand and improve of health and to address current health challenges. Within this group, the Eco-Epidemiology Unit aims to understand the dynamics and interactions of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) at the interface between humans and their broader natural and social environments, and to develop and evaluate tools and strategies for disease prevention, control and/or elimination.
We have collaborative projects with partners in - among others - Cuba, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, and South Africa. Current research topics within these collaborations are on 1] sustainable strategies for NTD control and elimination, 2] the interplay with other infections and health problems (eg. polyparasitism, malnutrition, non-communicable diseases) and 3] environmental impacts (eg. living space, climate change, urbanisation).

**Assignment**:
- To reinforce and support the respective partner institutions in the field of research and training on NTDs, with focus on eco-epidemiology and data analysis.
- To follow up current research activities, and further elaborate the research lines within joint projects, in close collaboration with the partners.
- To contribute to the writing of publications and the development of proposals related to the joint research.
- To co-supervise and coach students involved in the collaborative research projects.
- To contribute to educational and service tasks in relation to the joint projects.
**Profile**:
- Relevant master degree in public health, medicine, biomedical sciences, or related disciplines.
- Additional training in infectious diseases/parasitology is an advantage.
- Strong background in epidemiology and biostatistics; experience with spatio-temporal data analysis is an asset.
- Strong interest in research methodology.
- Relevant experience or keen interest in global health challenges, such as climate change and urbanisation.
- Broad interest in systems thinking and other ecohealth approaches.
- Relevant working experience with/in developing countries.
- Experience with writing proposals/publications is an advantage.
- Active knowledge of English; knowledge French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Willing and able to travel abroad regularly.
- Affinity with the objectives and values of the ITM.
