Our client is a major actor in the Retail landscape in Belgium. Even though the COVID crisis was a hit in the market for the shop visits, they’ve been sustainably diversifying their offer and commercial channels to come out from the global pandemic even stronger. In the frame of their development and to secure the coverage of an actual need.
Our client is looking for a Sr. Category Buyer to lead a key portfolio with the support of 2 Category Assistants. The role can be covered either with a Freelance or with a full-time employee.

**Your Mission**:
The Category Manager is responsible for the implementation of the commercial policy of a set of product categories (assortment, implementation, prices, promotions) and commercial relations with several suppliers (purchasing), within the framework of the company's strategy. He/she manages the product categories for which he/she is responsible in order to achieve the objectives of turnover, market share, margin and stock levels.

**Your responsibilities**:
**Assortment**
- Guarantee the respect and execution of the offer strategy on its category:

- Development and management of the national and private label offer by promoting the presence of exclusive brands in line with the overall category strategy.
- Manage the number of active references and monitor the flow of non-active references in the category.
- Participate in the development of the pricing strategy by family and implement it while respecting the margin objectives.
- Ensure the proper communication of commercial information to the sales management and the stores.
- Manage with the active support of his/her assistant the article database (Masterdata) by ensuring that it is as correct as possible (ean code, conditions, status,...)
- With the support of the Concept Manager, ensure an efficient merchandising of its families in line with the strategy.
- Set up a planogram per family of products

**Negotiation**
- Ensure the choice of suppliers and organize the negotiation of purchasing conditions allowing competitive pricing.
- If necessary, organize parallel purchases. - Be in charge of the commercial relationship with each of the suppliers in his portfolio.
- Manage the follow-up and the respect of all the contractual elements concluded with the supplier.
- Develop the commercial action plan with suppliers and negotiate marketing budgets, in accordance with the company's marketing plan. Implementation of the sales and marketing plan
- Participate in the development of the commercial plan based on the brand's positioning and budgets.
- Translate the strategy of the families for which he/she is responsible into the marketing plan (participation in the pre-cutting of folders, etc.)
- Propose, if necessary, corrective measures to the commercial plan both internally and with regard to external partners (suppliers).
- Optimize the cooperation budget of the different suppliers with the help of the promo manager.

**Management**
- Manage a team of 2 Category/Buying Assistants
- Manage the different KPI's (Sales, Margin, Market Share,...) in relation to Y-1 and in relation to the budget by regularly reporting to the PM and to the management control.
- Conduct a regular business review (min 4X/year) of the category for which he/she is responsible and propose an action plan as well as ways of improvement to ensure that the planned objectives are met.
- Analyze performance gaps.
- Challenge suppliers on their results in order to trace the reasons for the evolution of the figures achieved and take actions for improvement.
- Analyze and propose ideas for improvement on the commercial level.
- Analyze and propose detailed quantities down to the reference for wave box campaigns.

**Your Personal skills and qualifications**:

- Bachelor or master’s degree in business, economics, finance or marketing or similar by relevant experience and/or education
- Fluent in Dutch OR in French with ideally a good master of the other language
- A working experience of at least 3 years in the Buying/ Category Management Department of a Belgian Retailer is a must
- A first experience in People management would be ideal
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Strong focus on results
- Strongly consumer driven
- Pro-active and with a hands-on can-do attitude
