ABOUT THE COMPANY
This innovative organisation has developed bespoke technology to upcycle organic food waste streams into high-value, high-grade & high-demand lactic acid. Besides this, they produce biomaterials & upcycle bioproducts.
The company is uniquely positioned to mitigate the effects of climate change by decarbonizing food and plastic waste on a massive scale. Their technology has demonstrated the power of the circular economy to improve the sustainability of existing waste management infrastructures, while increasing their revenue and profitability.
Our client develops solutions for upcycling food waste and produces pure lactic acid, made entirely from renewable carbon, with a major positive impact on climate change. Lactic acid is the key building block for the production of PLA bioplastic, and for a wide range of green chemicals.
The company operates a demonstration plant near Antwerp, which uses commercial organic food waste. Based on the learnings of this demo plant, the process is continuously optimised and the company has already initiated the engineering phase for a full scale production plant.
On a mission to make its processes even more future proof, our client wants to optimize its carbon footprint and minimize generation of waste streams typically associated with the production of lactic acid. Our client is currently seeking a Senior Specialist Bioprocess Development, to lead the way on this mission
You’ll be responsible for:
- Screening and scouting of novel technologies relevant to lactic acid downstream processing, and production of green chemicals based on lactic acid.
- Establishing and managing relations with external technology providers, universities and contract research organizations as required.
- Setting up and leading R&D and pilot programs from proof-of-concept to industrial validation.
- Leading a small, but growing, team of scientists and technicians to achieve the company goals.
- Making recommendations to senior leadership about staffing levels and equipment required.
REQUIRED COMPETENCES & SKILLS
- Has a PhD degree in (bio)chemical engineering and 5 years of experience in industrial (bio)technology.
- Has demonstrated working knowledge of industrial biotechnological/chemical processes, preferably in the field of membrane processes.
- Is passionate about making a meaningful impact on climate change.
- Loves technical challenges associated with developing disruptive technologies.
- Shows flexibility, creativity and a hands-on mentality in a semi-industrial environment.
- Communicates fluently, constructively and effectively in English & Dutch.
