The Plant Genome Engineering group in Trait Research combines state-of-the-art genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation expertise, as well as are highly experienced in workflow-based operational organization aimed at mínimal cost and timelines while ensuring required quality. Plant Genome Engineering is embedded in a research department that focuses on trait discovery, engineering and evaluation. For the Plant Genome Engineering group in our R&D Innovation Center in Ghent (Belgium) we are looking for a pragmatic, enthusiastic and inspiring Junior Researcher. What you can expect: - In this role you will be part of our Plant Genome Engineering group and support delivering on R&D projects at a competitive cost, speed and quality. - Together with colleagues, you will be highly involved in technology development and platform innovation as well as in workflow-based operations. - You will under supervision design and independently implement novel experimental approaches in research projects related to genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation. - You will coordinate experiments in consultation with the Plant Genome Engineering leadership to achieve critical milestones for assigned tasks within the assigned research projects. - You will independently interpret, analyze and report with appropriate level of detail the outcomes of experimental approaches and ensure data integrity. - You will conduct scientific literature studies on request. - You will familiarize existing workflows and identify and propose workflow improvements. - You will, under supervision, report on progress of experimental approaches to the Program Leader or delegate in a timely and explicit manner towards milestones. - Furthermore, you will act as a role model with respect to ensuring compliance with the relevant company standards (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, Biosafety, Stewardship,...). **QUALIFICATIONS** - You have a Master degree Life Sciences (or equivalent through experience) with a minimum of 3 years lab experience in relevant aspects of genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation. - In your field of expertise, you are able to keep abreast of new developments, and convert these into technical innovation plans and expertise innovation strategy contributions. - You can advise on research project strategy by providing technical and literature based input. - You are known for your pragmatism, hands-on mentality and coaching skills. - You have experience in experiment planning and prioritization. - You have an innovative and digital mindset in process/efficiency improvement. - You have strong networking skills and you are able to interact and cooperate with stakeholders on different levels in an organization. - You have strong communication and presentation skills. - You have advanced computer skills and affinity for specialized software and databases. - You are fluent in Dutch and English, both orally as well as in writing. **BENEFITS** - Responsibility from day one in a challenging but dynamic work environment and "on-the-job" training as part of a committed team. - Competitive compensation including attractive benefits as well as excellent career opportunities in an international company. **ABOUT US** We are the world's leading chemical company because we offer intelligent solutions for our customers and for a sustainable future.
