The advertised position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC) - a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature.

We support a diverse range of partners across sectors and geographies, helping them add their voices, views and insights to the conversation.
Position:
GSCC is seeking a Strategic Communications Manager, Economics, to further our work on making rapid climate action central to economics discourse, theory, and practice.
A large part of this role is developing and executing a successful editorial strategy which looks at macro-economic policies and related "big concepts" such as geopolitics, security, and development - via our Polycrisis editorial project.
This involves collaborating with existing partners, developing new editorial partnerships, identifying new voices whose work is relevant to narratives about fiscal policy as it intersects with constraints including financial architecture, capital flows, international and domestic politics.
It requires a strong editorial background as well as strategic communications experience and an ability to leverage existing networks to build new connections.
Key responsibilities
- Independently developing and implementing an economics communications strategy, identifying partnerships and developing interventions which have the ability to influence the discourse in the economics communities across commentary, practice, policy and research.
- Building and managing a new incubated editorial project to achieve the aims set out for it, specifically working with partners, consultants, and GSCC Digital and AIH colleagues to turn it into a standalone entity with a growing contributor, readership base, and potentially expanding its scope both organically and via new strategic partnerships.
- Independently manage a small team delivering multiple impactful projects towards that strategy
- Actively and increasingly independently manage relationships with funders
- Show leadership in the network, for example conceptualising and implementing new programmes of work in the network
- Building and maintaining a diverse network of such partners and contacts across sectors, and providing them with communications and media relations service
- Acting as point person for an international network of peers, both in communications and expert roles, using the macroeconomics communications strategy to drive change at the international and national level.
- Overseeing other grantee relationships, including directly managing the work of some grantees.
- Undertaking proactive media work, e.g. expanding and maintaining media relationships in order to brief journalists, hosting field trips for ontheground investigations/features and developing digital strategies, as well as proactively pitching stories and reactive media management.
- Building capacity within the network and developing structures and approaches that can react quickly to emerging opportunities and changes in the external context, while working with an international network to deliver relevant communications content and collateral, localized/tailored for respective audiences
- Monitoring, evaluation and reporting on communications efforts against strategy
- Independently managing and monitoring department and project budgets (including some financial and administrative tasks)
