Janssen Global Development R&D is currently building a brand-new team looking after our diverse portfolio of partnerships with external vendors across the globe.

We are currently recruiting for 2 Director level positions that can be based in our Janssen hubs in the US and Europe (High Wycombe, Leiden, or Beerse).


You will be a point of accountability within the Global Development team, and be responsible for increasing financial efficiencies across our Janssen R&D multi-million dollar business partnerships and outsourcing activities.

This includes but is not limited to Contract Research Organizations (CRO), Central/Special Laboratories, Investigator Sites, and other R&D-related service categories with an annual spend in excess of $1B.

You will partner with Janssen Research & Development Procurement, Finance, and other cross-functional leaders to develop and implement a clinical partnership budget accountability strategy.

Your main Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of Partnership Accountability key performance indicators and strategies, such as partner budget forecasting, partner resource management, and validation of services performed
  • Oversight of partner budget(s) in coordination with procurement and operational/functional teams.
  • Implementation and participation in operations and commercial governance frameworks and approaches including oversight, service level expectations/adjudication, and customer concern pathways.
  • Responsible for partner budget forecasting including actual services completed, remaining budget, and potential scope changes. Coordinate with internal functions to address partner actuals and forecasting as necessary.
  • Longterm strategy, including partnership optimization and continuous improvement/change management.
  • Providing guidance and ensuring alignment with J&J policies and standards related to business partners, including applicable clinical operations practices.
  • Be a point of escalation for commercial and business operations issue resolution and mitigation.
  • Oversee and develop a team of professionals working to solidify continuous improvement in the areas of financial forecasting and budgeting.
  • Work with a large number of internal and external partners to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Serve as a visible and effective change agent for global initiatives and will seek to provide strategic decisionmaking for all areas of responsibility while nurturing the ideas of others
  • Serve as a global champion and leader for staff change management and engagement strategy, continuous improvement projects.
  • Directly and indirectly, lead a team of professionals providing leadership, mentorship, and career development opportunities for international team members.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (preferred Business Operations, Business Management, Finance) with 7+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry is required.
  • Solid understanding of Clinical Operations and related business practices including experience with supplier/vendor contracting, budgeting, and forecasting is required.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to drive budget accountability, global alignment, efficiency, and quality is required.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, networking skills, a high level of organizational ability, and attention to detail is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead the execution of strategy and business transformation initiatives is preferred.
  • Experience in assessing and implementing technology related to R&D business process requirements to successfully drive operational productivity, strategy optimization, process improvements, and efficiencies is preferred.
  • Ability to translate data into information/strategies and executable action plans is required.
  • A trusted, inclusive, leader with demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring crossfunctional, global teams is required. Effective leadership skills and proven ability to foster team productivity and cohesiveness.
  • Ability to provide transformational and strategic leadership is required.
