Insights to Impact R&D Head - Early Missions
As part of UCB’s sustained and strategic commitment to patients, UCB will continue to focus on fact-based decision making. To enable this, three **Insights-to-Impact (I2I) functions** have been established within the Corporate Development and Finance function, which are acting as independent sparring partner to the Research & Development (R&D) teams, providing Insights and a transversal resource reallocation challenge, while performing business planning.
The **I2I R&D function** focuses on all R&D activities across our portfolio (early and late stage), wherever they take place within UCB: Early Solutions, Development Solutions, Immunology Missions, Neurology Missions.
As the** Insights to Impact R&D Head - Early Solutions **you will have the opportunity to influence and shape the long term strategy of the UCB, whilst leading, influencing, and managing multiple senior-level stakeholders.
**Accountabilities**:
- Part of I2I R&D leadership team_ [within Corporate Development & Finance (CD&F)], _and develop a transversal view on UCB’s global R&D portfolio with a deep focus on research and early stage development portfolio strategy and execution
- Drive financial planning for research and early development - short and long term - and performance management including budget forecasting and tracking vs. objectives and KPIs
- Financial performance management and regular monitoring & reporting of business & financial KPIs to the group, Early Solutions Leadership Team (ESLT), Early Solutions (ES) Functions and other key stakeholders
- Partner with ES to support translation of long-term corporate objectives and ambition into research strategy. Support developing the operational roadmap including KPIs and milestones, and investment framework by therapeutic modalities and/or platforms, pathways and disease / therapy area
- Drive resource (re)allocation across research and early development in line with strategic plan _[3yr and 10yr horizons]_, and for maximizing risk-adjusted value through data driven insights and independent challenges. Participate to governance meetings, ie ESLT and Discovery Portfolio Management (DPM), and support and challenge decision making
- Enable digital transformation of research by driving reallocation of resources towards innovative and most impactful approaches. Support uptake of digital & analytical tools and develop KPIs to assess impact
- Support excellence in research and early development execution through defining & tracking KPIs and benchmarking externally, in collaboration with Portfolio Management and I2I R&D Insights & Analytics (Benchmarking)
- Tracking progress of early development programs in close partnership with the clinical teams, ie Early Patient Value Missions (EPVM) and Development Solutions, and reflect in financial forecasts to manage landing vs. targets and budget plans
- Risk & opportunity evaluation via scenario planning on research and early development portfolio
- Strategic partner and advisor to the ES teams on strategic and business matters, and contribute to strategy formulation - assets, technology platforms and therapy area
- Support evaluation and business case development of inorganic opportunities, and partner with Alliance Management on the management of executed deals, eg Bepranemab (Roche) and aSyn (Novartis) partnerships.
- People management: Manage performance and development of ‘I2I R&D Finance Lead(s) - Early Solutions’, and similarly support (dotted line) the performance and development of FP&A colleagues supporting ES.
**Your Profile**:
- Good understanding of research and clinical development process, with exposure to asset-level and portfolio-level decision making process
- Holistic thinking with ability to connect science, patient needs and commercial opportunity
- Strategic mindset with ability to translate strategic considerations into financial implications
- Experience of interacting and dealing closely with senior level management
- Strong transversal connector with ability to influence as well as challenge constructively
- Gene therapy experience would be desirable
