**_Background_**
ENNHRI is the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions. We bring together over 40 National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) across Europe to enhance the promotion and protection of human rights in the region. NHRIs are state-mandated bodies, independent of government, with a broad constitutional or legal mandate to promote and protect human rights at the national level. They are accredited by reference to the UN Paris Principles to ensure their independence, plurality, impartiality, and effectiveness. ENNHRI is one of four regional groups of NHRIs, which together make up GANHRI, the Global Alliance of NHRIs.
Our Permanent Secretariat, based in Brussels, supports and facilitates ENNHRI’s work, including: assisting in the establishment, strengthening and accreditation of NHRIs; facilitating capacity building and training; coordinating exchange of information and good practice among members; engaging with regional mechanisms; and intervening on legal and policy developments at a European level.
ENNHRI is looking for an **Advisor to the Secretary General **to provide support in briefings, governance, member engagement, and other areas within her mandate on the day-to-day management of ENNHRI and its Secretariat.
**_ Key Responsibilities_**
ENNHRI’s Advisor to the Secretary General will provide support in close coordination with our two
sub-teams (Human Rights and Network Development), and their Team Leaders:
**Human Rights**:
- Prepare briefings and speaking notes for the Secretariat General, in coordination with Secretariat staff, for high-level representation and engagement;
- Coordinate the Secretary General’s engagement with ENNHRI’s partners and stakeholders;
**Member Liaison**:
- Support the Secretary General’s and Board members’ engagements with ENNHRI’s membership, and particularly with Heads of NHRIs;
- Support the development and implementation of an NHRI leaders programme
- Maintain awareness of significant developments at member institutions, through liaison with colleagues Governance:
- Support the preparation for, running of and follow-up to ENNHRI governance meetings, particularly the Board and General Assembly
- Support the preparation of ENNHRI’s representation at GANHRI governance and highlevel meetings
- Support the Secretary General’s work on governance items arising within the network
**General**:
- Maintain awareness of ENNHRI’s activities in priority areas and key developments at member institutions, through liaison with colleagues
- Additional support, including on administration, to the Secretary General, according to her functions
- Any other reasonable duties as are required by the ENNHRI Secretariat, in line with the general responsibility of the role, including occasional travel
**_ Person specification Essential criteria:_**
- At least three years of relevant professional experience.
- Professional experience of working on human rights, and with European human rights frameworks.
- Experience or demonstrated knowledge of membership organisations.
- Professional working level of English.
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Ability to work both in a team and on own initiative.
- Commitment to ENNHRI’s values and mission.

- Experience of working with NHRIs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NHRI standards.
- Experience of working on organisational governance.
- Experience of working in an international environment.
- Excellent computer skills.
