The Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) is the world leader in providing electron microscopy workflows to academic and industrial customers around the world. The Life Science Business Unit within MSD provides high-value workflow solutions for biological 3D imaging, ranging from atomic resolution imaging of protein complexes to volume acquisition of cellular compartment structures.

The Pharma and Biotech team within the Life Sciences Business Unit is recruiting a Director of Segment Strategy to build and lead a team responsible for growth in strategic end markets, including Drug Discovery, Biologics, AgBio and Synthetic Biology.

The Segment Strategy Team will evaluate market opportunities, elucidate market requirements, set go-to-market strategies, and provide vertical-specific considerations to product managers to support product roadmap evolution.

In this leadership role, you will engage in cross-functional collaboration to ensure team members are aligned to customer requirements and the results needed to drive value for our customers and business.

Key Responsibilities/Activities:

- Build an impactful team to deliver on segment strategy responsibilities
- Lead by doing - take ownership of key customer segments, establish processes, and model behaviors with clear prioritization and transparency
- Identify and profile customer segments as targets to accelerate deliver value in industrial life science accounts.
- Create and execute pivotal initiatives to position electron microscopy as a critical platform to de-risk and accelerate discovery, development and commercialization of critical therapies and life sciences tools
- Lead segment-related programs with demand generation colleagues (market development, sales development, business development) to create market-facing campaigns; Drive the continuous improvement cycle for marketing and sales development deployment.
- Establish relationships with key contacts and work to develop them into reference customers to help sales in a region or globally.
- Identify and drive collaboration opportunities with Key Opinion Leaders to strengthen market position.
- Build Market Requirements Documents that are used by R&D to develop future products for value creation.
- Conduct competitive analysis, gather market intelligence and develop responsive positioning.
- Develop and deliver onboarding and upskilling programs for field teams.

Competencies:

- Minimum education requirement is a Ph.D. in Structural Biology, ideally with experience in electron microscopy.
- Minimum of 10+ years combined experience in structural biology and drug discovery and 5+ years' experience in Drug Discovery with a network in Pharma and Biotech globally
- High intensity leader who translates strategy to concrete actions and delivers on complex programs
- Creative thinker with strong research skills and sincere curiosity for life sciences and our markets
- Experience in strategic market analysis and business development in life sciences
- Passion for building impactful teams; Ability to collaborate effective with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal that resonate with diverse audiences.
- Excellent customer interfacing skills
